PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Castle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Slice (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Frank Castle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ken Slice!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Joseph Jones and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slice misses with a two punch combination.
Slice looks to land a combination but Castle avoids it well.
Slice looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Slice clinches with his opponent.

Slice breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Castle tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Slice swivels and escapes.
Frank Castle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Slice throws a chopping leg kick but Castle manages to avoid taking any serious damage.
Slice lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Castle shoots in but Slice avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Slice keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Castle. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Slice tries to bum rush Castle with a series of wild strikes but Castle uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Slice throws a right and a left that both miss.
Castle changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Slice tries to avoid it but Castle manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Slice to the ground. Slice escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Slice is looking to slow Castle down with leg kicks.
Slice lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Castle slips a jab and a cross from Slice.
Slice throws a nice looking combination but Castle bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Slice throws a series of punches but Castle avoids them all with ease.

Slice clinches up with Castle and pushes him back against the ropes.
Slice lands an elbow just above Castle 's eye.

Slice manages to break the clinch.

Slice closes the distance and clinches.

Slice breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Ken Slice is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Slice misses with a two punch combination.
Castle closes this distance looking for a takedown but Slice circles away.
Slice scores with a hook to the body. Castle takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Good leg kick by Slice there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Castle shoots in for a double leg but Slice sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Castle shoots in looking for a takedown. Slice tries to sprawl out of it but Castle keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Slice manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Castle slips a jab and a cross from Slice.

Slice clinches with his opponent.

Slice breaks from the clinch.

Castle shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Castle accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Slice pulls Castle in to control the position.

Slice escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Castle gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Castle stops Slice from standing up.
Slice keeping moving, preventing Castle from controlling successfully.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Castle closes this distance looking for a takedown but Slice circles away.
Slice looks to land a combination but Castle avoids it well.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Slice tries a head kick but it misses.
Castle fails to land the takedown.
Castle checks a low kick from Slice.

Castle shoots in but no luck this time.

Castle shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Slice as he avoids it easily.

Castle fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Slice keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Slice fails to land with a series of punches.
Slice scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Castle doesn't seem bothered though.
Slice lands a two punch combo.
Castle misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Slice forces Castle back against the ropes and clinches.

Slice breaks from the clinch.
Slice displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Castle fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Slice takes the fight into the clinch.
Castle wants a takedown.

Slice breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Slice jabs Castle right on the nose. Castle blinks but takes it well.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Slice cracks Castle with an open hand slap.
Castle shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Slice pinned against the cage. Slice gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Castle shoots in looking for a takedown. Slice tries to sprawl out of it but Castle keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Slice manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Slice fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Slice throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Castle.
Castle shoots in but no luck this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken Slice dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A right-left combo lands from Slice.

Slice gets a clinch.

Slice escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Nice takedown defense from Slice. No joy for Castle on that attempt.

Slice drives through and clinches with Castle against the ropes.
Nice body punch from Slice - that landed with a thud.

Slice breaks the clinch.
Castle fails with the takedown.
Slice tries to close the distance and clinch up against the ropes but Castle paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Castle shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Castle was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Slice just holding on.
Slice working to try and regain half guard.
Slice is breathing heavily.

Castle working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Slice really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Castle. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Slice is looking to improve his position but Castle isn't that keen on the idea.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Slice can do anything to dispel that myth.
Slice gets back to half guard.
Slice wants to control but Castle is keeping busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Castle seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Slice does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Castle is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Castle works his way into side control.
Slice wants to get back to his feet.
The referee asks Castle politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Castle prefers to stall for the moment though.
Slice can't do much from the bottom here.

Slice is looking to regain half guard here but Castle keeps moving and retains side control.

Castle wants to lay and pray for a moment but Slice keeps working.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

Slice fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Castle, pushing him back against the ropes.

Slice manages to break the clinch.
Castle avoids a punch combination nicely.
Slice looks to land a combination. Castle sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Castle looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Castle sitting in guard here, content to control.
Castle wants to pass the guard but Slice is keeping the position.
Castle trying to control the position from guard on top but Slice is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Ken Slice will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Slice tries to clinch up but Castle circles away and keeps his distance.
Castle uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Slice.
Slice throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Castle feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Slice looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Castle wants to control from the top but Slice keeps moving.
Slice wants to stand up but Castle is controlling him.
Slice not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Castle moves into full mount! Slice won't be happy about that!

Castle is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Slice is forced to tap! Great finish!
