Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bj Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rusty Shackleford (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rusty Shackleford will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rusty Shackleford! The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Paul Gruel and Micheangelo Fripello.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maia misses with a takedown enabling Shackleford to counter with a crisp jab.
It looks like Bj Maia has been cut. Shackleford rushes Maia and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Maia changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Shackleford fights it off and pushes away nicely.

A battle for position here, against the cage. Maia tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Shackleford just stands there and leans against the cage. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bj Maia. That's going to take a lot out of him. Shackleford lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Maia trying to control from the bottom.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Maia makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Maia. Shackleford looking to sit in guard and control but Maia gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Shackleford trying to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maia wants to control from the top but Shackleford keeps moving. Shackleford working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Maia. Maia throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Maia stands and throws Shackleford's legs to the side, diving into side control. Maia wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shackleford keeps working. Maia looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Shackleford is trying to control Maia's posture but Maia avoids it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Maia thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Maia looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Shackleford is looking for a sweep. Maia wants to control but Shackleford is keeping him busy.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Maia tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Maia has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Maia tries to advance to mount but can't. Maia trying to control the action but Shackleford is working from the bottom. Maia goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Shackleford rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Maia's guard! Nice work there by Shackleford! Maia is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Shackleford defends well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shackleford trying to stand up but can't free himself from Maia's guard. Maia manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Shackleford manages to get himself to full guard.
Maia trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Maia trying to control the position from guard on top but Shackleford is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Maia trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Maia throws a big right hand that misses. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bj Maia dominated that round. The cut man is working on Bj Maia's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Horrible takedown by Maia or perhaps it was just good defense by Shackleford which made him look bad. Shackleford lands a really nice looking cross but Maia seems unphased.
Shackleford closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Shackleford wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maia keeps working. Bj Maia overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Maia wants to get back to full guard. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Maia actively working from the bottom here. Shackleford is working for a kimura but Maia is defending it quite comfortably.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Shackleford is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Shackleford wants to lay and pray for a moment but Maia keeps working.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shackleford might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Maia haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Maia looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Maia looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Maia actively working from the bottom here. Shackleford wants to pass to mount but Maia is defending the position. Shackleford wants to stand up but Maia is controlling the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Maia works his way to full guard. Good work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Maia working for submissions but it's allowed Shackleford to get to half guard.
Maia is trying to get back to full guard. Maia makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Maia. Maia has a closed guard, preventing Shackleford from standing up. Maia has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Shackleford doesn't defend quickly enough and Maia has managed to lock this one up! Can Shackleford escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Maia on a fantastic submission victory.
