Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steven Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Preston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jacob Preston!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Eddie Farnsworth and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson looks for a takedown but Preston sprawls well.
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Preston shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Johnson sprawls well. Johnson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Preston gets slowly back to his feet.
Horrible takedown by Johnson or perhaps it was just good defense by Preston which made him look bad.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Preston fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Johnson avoids it really well and circles away.

and Preston counters with a thumping low kick.

Johnson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

and Johnson counters with a nice uppercut.
Preston shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Johnson as he jumps to the side.

Johnson wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Johnson gets control of Preston's arms and successfully pulls guard. Johnson will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Johnson shoots in but Preston avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Johnson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Johnson wants it to stay on the feet.
Johnson changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Preston throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Johnson closes the distance and clinches up with Preston, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes Preston against the cage but Preston circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Preston will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Johnson tries to close the distance and clinch but Preston swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Preston tries to keep at a distance but Johnson has taken the fight into the clinch.

Johnson tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Preston avoids it.

Preston might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Johnson haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Johnson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Preston is working away from the top position though.

Johnson stuffs the takedown attempt from Preston. Preston gets slowly back to his feet.

Preston throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Johnson's waist but Johnson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Preston off to one side.

Preston wants to control from the top but Johnson keeps moving.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Johnson working for submissions but it's allowed Preston to get to half guard.
Preston seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Johnson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Steven Johnson.
I think Johnson has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
