Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Randy Royale! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mike Materson! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Royale throws a head kick but Materson moves out of range.
Materson fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Royale to the ground. Materson is now in Royale's guard. Materson stands up over Royale, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Materson trying to control the position from guard on top but Royale is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Materson wants to pass the guard but Royale is keeping the position. Materson working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Materson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Materson is looking to stand up but Royale won't let him. Royale avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Materson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Royale is keeping the position for now. Materson loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
That's one minute gone in the round. Materson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Royale works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Materson wants to control from the top but Royale keeps moving. Materson throws a strike but Royale rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Materson looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Royale in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Royale missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Royale accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Royale advances position into side control! Royale working away. Royale goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Materson rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Royale's guard! Nice work there by Materson! Materson postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Materson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Royale is keeping the position for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Materson keeps trying to improve his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Royale can't keep his opponent in guard - Materson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Materson winds up and cracks Royale with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Materson is looking to advance position but Royale won't allow it. Materson looks to land a strike but Royale avoids it nicely and regains full guard. Materson connects with a couple of short punches. Materson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Royale wants to stand up but Materson is controlling him. Royale is breathing heavily. Materson chips away with some ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Materson gets to his feet - Royale follows without any prompting. Materson fails with a takedown attempt from distance. This has been an exciting period of action! Royale clinches. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Royale. Royale has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Materson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Royale gets underhooks to prevent Materson's takedown attempt.
Materson lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards. Materson wants to take the fight to the mat but Royale manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Randy Royale has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Materson. Materson works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Materson throws a big elbow that misses. Materson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Materson engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Royale has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Materson off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Royale thows a left - swing and a miss! Materson goes for a double leg but Royale avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Royale continues to drive forward. Materson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. A combination from Royale does no damage. Randy Royale seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Materson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Royale's waist but Royale gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Materson off to one side. A slapping leg kick lands for Materson.

Materson working the body and head with strikes. Materson with the ground and pound but Royale regains half guard under the barage of strikes. Royale is not content to let Materson control the position. Materson not landing any meaningful shots this time. Materson stops Royale from getting back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Royale won't allow Materson to pass to mount. Materson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Royale is just riding it out for now. Materson eventually gives up the hold. Materson lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Materson is nestled in close to Royale, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Materson wants to free his trapped foot but Royale is holding on for dear life with his legs. Materson works his foot free and advances to mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mike Materson showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Mike Materson is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Materson wants to pass to mount but Royale is defending the position. And that's the end of the fight! Mike Materson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Materson has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. Making sure that Just Fight (Everything 7$) logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
