Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Russell Ives (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Ryan Devolder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Devolder has chosen 'I'm A Big Kid Now' as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Russell Ives!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mark Ryan Devolder!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Devolder.
Devolder swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Devolder throws a hook but Ives blocks it.
Devolder fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Ives fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Devolder to the ground. Ives is now in Devolder's guard.
Devolder preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Ives pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Devolder is keeping the position for now.
Ives trying to control the position from guard on top but Devolder is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Devolder looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ives is one step ahead there.
Ives working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Devolder's head.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ives accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Ives trying to control but Devolder is working from the bottom.
Devolder preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Devolder wants to sweep here but Ives controlling him for the moment.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Ives's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Ives got a little sloppy there for a moment and Devolder has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ives has managed to get both his arms back between Devolder's legs - danger averted.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ives slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Ives wants to control but Devolder is keeping him busy.
Devolder gets back to half guard.
Devolder wants to improve his position but Ives is controlling well.
Devolder moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Devolder looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Ives has picked Devolder up and slammed him! Devolder can't keep hold of the triangle and Ives manages to pass to side control!
Devolder sneaks back into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Well, if Ives is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Devolder wants to improve his position but Ives is controlling well.
Ives lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Devolder gets back to full guard.
Devolder manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Ives regains half guard.

Devolder is working for a kimura but Ives is defending it quite comfortably.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ives manages to get to full guard.
Devolder advances to half guard.
Ives knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Devolder on the ground.

Devolder is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Ives on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Ives tries to get out of the position.

Devolder is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Ives has managed to free his arm - good work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Devolder seems to be working for a kimura but Ives defends the submission attempt.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Ives actively working from the bottom here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Russell Ives will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Devolder will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Ives scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Ives wants to pass to mount but Devolder is defending the position.
Devolder works his way to full guard. Good work.

Devolder has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ives can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Devolder had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ives defends it easily.
Ives has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Ives trying to control the position from guard on top but Devolder is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mark Ryan Devolder has got the better of the ground game so far.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Devolder has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Ives should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Devolder has tightened it up now! Ives should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Mark Ryan Devolder seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
The defeated Russell Ives had this to say: 'Kevin was the better man tonight. He earned his shot and he earned the belt. Now, it's time for me to go back to the gym, train harder, and fight my way back into contention, so I can get my belt back.'.
