PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mike Hunt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matt Calvert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Matt Calvert will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mike Hunt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Matt Calvert!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Fedor Mirinova and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Calvert.

Hunt closes the distance and clinches.
Calvert is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Hunt is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Calvert tries to pull guard but Hunt holds him up against the ropes and eventually Calvert drops back down to his feet.
Hunt is trying to break the clinch but Calvert has him pressed against the ropes.
Hunt misses with a body punch.
Hunt can't find room to land a body shot as Calvert controls the action.

Calvert gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Hunt regains guard.
Hunt keeping moving, preventing Calvert from controlling successfully.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Hunt manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Calvert manages to get himself to full guard.

Hunt drops back looking for a leg! Calvert is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Calvert manages to kick Hunt off! Hunt jumps back into Calvert's guard.
Hunt in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hunt wants to control from the top but Calvert keeps moving.
Hunt stays in close to Calvert's body and controls the position.
Hunt sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Calvert's guard.
Calvert looks gassed!
Hunt is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Calvert!

Hunt throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Hunt fails to move to back control.

Hunt controlling the pace for now.
Calvert avoids a series of strikes thrown by Hunt.
Hunt scoring with strikes but Calvert is staying in there.

Hunt is working for a guillotine from mount but Calvert frees his head quite easily.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Hunt wants to control the pace but Calvert is squirming around nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hunt thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Hunt looking to finish with strikes here!
Calvert has given up his back - I don’t know if this is a deliberate ploy to try and escape or if he is just struggling down there.
Hunt has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Hunt struggling to land strikes to the head as Calvert covers up.
Hunt just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Hunt is looking to control Calvert but Calvert is wriggling around and keeping busy.
Calvert trying to control but not successfully.
Hunt trying to control momentarily.

Hunt has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Hunt dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.

Hunt fails in his attempt to clinch.
No joy there for Hunt, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Nice defenses there by Hunt.

Hunt scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Calvert looks like he's trying to stand up.
Calvert really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hunt. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hunt passes to full mount!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Calvert is just holding on here. Hunt manages to take his back.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hunt has both hooks in and is working for a choke. Calvert is in real trouble here. Hunt gets an arm under the chin and tightens the submission attempt... is this the end? Yes, Calvert is tapping out! Hunt wins by rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Mike Hunt!
