Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jeff Kaufmore!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Smith!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Josh West and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith pushes Kaufmore away with a front kick.

Smith rushes Kaufmore and presses him up against the cage.
Kaufmore wants to take the fight to the mat but Smith manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Smith gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.


It looks like Jeff Kaufmore has been cut.
Kaufmore is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Smith to keep the fight standing.
Smith tries a knee to the head but Kaufmore blocks it.
Smith tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Kaufmore tries to pull guard but Smith won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jeff Kaufmore. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Kaufmore keeps control of Smith as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Smith using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Kaufmore has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Smith throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Kaufmore blocks it with crossed arms.

Kaufmore ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Kaufmore no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

John Smith has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Smith pushes Kaufmore away with a front kick.
Smith throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Kaufmore's head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kaufmore throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Smith's waist but Smith gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kaufmore off to one side.
Smith misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kaufmore. Smith does a little dance to reset his feet.
Kaufmore scores with a jab to the jaw.
Kaufmore lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Kaufmore.

Kaufmore thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Smith really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kaufmore. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kaufmore has knee on belly momentarily but Smith bucks him off and regains half guard.

Kaufmore is working for a kimura but Smith is defending it quite comfortably.
Kaufmore is trying to control. Smith wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Kaufmore is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Smith defends it well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith is staying active underneath Kaufmore, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

That was a close round but I would say that Jeff Kaufmore will probably get the nod.

Kaufmore shoots in and drives through. Smith sprawls well.
Smith throws a head kick but Kaufmore moves out of range.
Smith takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Kaufmore.

Kaufmore walks forward, straight into a front kick from Smith.
Kaufmore scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Smith is looking for a sweep. Kaufmore is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Smith is in trouble now - Kaufmore has advanced to mount!

Kaufmore swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Smith is now in Kaufmore's guard. A big mistake from Kaufmore there, giving up the dominant position!

Kaufmore escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Kaufmore is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Smith is aware though and is defending well.

Smith should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Kaufmore had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Smith defends it easily.

Kaufmore has his foot on Smith's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Smith works his way back into a safe position though.
Kaufmore is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Kaufmore is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kaufmore is stalling here. Smith is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Kaufmore seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Smith has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Smith tries to stand but Kaufmore controls the position and pulls Smith into his guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

We're going to have a standup here because Jeff Kaufmore wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Smith is controlling an arm, preventing Kaufmore from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Kaufmore is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Smith to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Smith shrugs it off.
Kaufmore is looking to work his way around to Smith's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

Kaufmore drops back, looking for a kneebar! Smith looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Smith looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Smith!

Smith is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kaufmore is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Kaufmore is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Smith's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smith doesn't manage to clinch there - Kaufmore circles away.
Smith takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Smith takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Smith throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Kaufmore shoots in for a takedown. Oh, that's a huge slam! Smith is on queer street and Kaufmore is pounding down on him with a barage of strikes. The ref is forced to step in and stop the fight. Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 5, we have a winner by way of TKO (Slam). Jeff Kaufmore!

After winning the bout, Jeff Kaufmore thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
