PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Danny Drago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joey Corato (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Danny Drago!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Joey Corato!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Robert Douchet and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Drago has a takedown stuffed.
Joey Corato seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Corato tries to clinch up
and Drago counters with a head kick. That will keep Corato thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Corato moves to clinch but Drago breaks away
and Drago counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Drago fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Corato avoids it really well and circles away.
Drago avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Drago throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Corato leaves Drago with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Danny Drago. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Corato tries to clinch
and Drago connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Corato tries to clinch there but Drago circles away.

Corato takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Corato displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Drago.

Drago looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Drago trying to control the position from guard on top but Corato is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Corato wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Drago wants to control from the top but Corato keeps moving.

Danny Drago has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Drago tries for a takedown but Corato sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Drago shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Drago showed some decent athleticism there.
Corato is trying to control but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Drago wants to pass to mount but Corato is defending the position.

Drago will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Drago misses with a takedown attempt - Corato sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Corato is looking to clinch but Drago is avoiding it.
A looping hook to the body misses from Corato. Drago does a little dance to reset his feet.

Corato lands a left hand that snaps the head of Drago backwards.
Drago tries to pull guard but Corato holds him up against the cage and eventually Drago drops back down to his feet.

Corato throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Dragos head.
Drago is trying to drag Corato to the mat but Corato just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Corato lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Corato scores a nice knee to the body.
Corato gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Drago.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Drago is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
A nice right hand lands inside from Corato.

Drago tries to score a body lock takedown but Corato shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Corato cracks Drago with a nice body shot.

Corato with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Corato lands with a light punch inside.
Corato scores with a shoulder strike.
Drago goes for a takedown attempt but Corato pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Corato tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Drago paws at him with a jab and circles away.

and Drago counters with a shoot takedown. Corato fights it but they end up in guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Drago avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Drago throws an elbow that misses. Corato uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Drago's guard. Nice move by Corato!

Joey Corato showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Corato clobbers Drago with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Corato loads up on a big right hand but Drago slips the punch.

Drago shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Corato napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Drago postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Corato trying to remain calm as Drago controls from the top position.
Danny Drago overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Drago wants to lay and pray for a moment but Corato keeps working.
Corato is trying to control Drago's posture but Drago avoids it.
Drago throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Corato works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Drago is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Corato has managed to free his arm - good work.
Corato has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Drago is working away from the top position though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Drago is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Corato sees it coming and defends easily.
Drago keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Corato has hold of Drago's hands but Drago slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Drago is trying to control. Corato wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Corato is trying to control but Drago manages to pass to mount!
Corato stops Drago from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

Drago lands a big elbow.
Corato tries to hold on but Drago postures up.

Drago jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Corato is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Corato and Drago has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Corato is not content to let Drago control the position.

Drago swings around for an armbar but Corato sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Drago's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Drago is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Corato is aware though and is defending well.
Corato working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Corato postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Corato with a nice head shot there.
Corato trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Corato postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Drago utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Corato is looking to work some ground and pound but Drago has wrist control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Drago keeping moving, preventing Corato from controlling successfully.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Danny Drago.
I think Drago has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
