Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jozef Rakic! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Thomas William! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Patrick Alders and Albert Achterberg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! William misses with a head kick.
William dives in and scores a takedown into Rakic's guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. William stops Rakic from standing up. William throwing strikes from guard but Rakic blocks nicely. William drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and William jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. William passes Rakic's left leg - he's now in half guard. Rakic wants to get back to his feet.
Rakic knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for William on the ground. William wants to work for an arm triangle but Rakic is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
William prevents Rakic from standing back up.
That's one minute gone in the round. William is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rakic has managed to free his arm - good work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rakic is defending against the submission attempts here by William.
William seems to be looking for submissions.
Rakic is looking to get back to is feet but William passes into side control.
William tries for a kimura but Rakic is defending well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rakic being controlled for a moment. William lands a few punches from side control. William is trying to get an arm triangle but Rakic is defending well. Rakic wants to get back to his feet but William drags him back down. The ground and pound from William seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. William wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rakic, who protects the arm well. Rakic is trying to get back to his feet. William working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. William wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rakic keeps working. William creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Rakic sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. William has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Rakic is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. William yanks on the arm and Rakic is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by William.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Thomas William! After winning the bout, Thomas William thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
