Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Kevin Gaarlandt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alexander Heineken! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Aafke Stam and Paulsen Ambrosius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gaarlandt shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Heineken defends it nicely. Gaarlandt moves out of range of the strikes. Heineken scores with a body shot.
Heineken has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Heineken lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Gaarlandt at a distance.
Gaarlandt misses the jab. Gaarlandt misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Heineken.
Heineken scores with a three punch combo!
Gaarlandt fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Heineken avoids it really well and circles away.
That's one minute gone in the round. Heineken swinging wildly here.
Heineken connects with a crisp jab. Gaarlandt takes a body punch but keeps moving. The fighters circling - Heineken throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Gaarlandt fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kevin Gaarlandt. That's going to take a lot out of him. Gaarlandt throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Heineken's waist but Heineken gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gaarlandt off to one side.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Heineken lands a head shot. Gaarlandt walks straight into a right hand from Heineken - that's dropped him! Heineken jumps into mount and starts pounding away - can he finish?! More strikes go undefended and the referee has to dive in to save Gaarlandt from any more punishment! Gaarlandt complains about the stoppage but falls over as he tries to stand back up, so it was clearly a good stoppage.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Alexander Heineken! Alexander Heineken decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
