Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Toshihiro Kai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Bruens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bruens has chosen River Below as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
28 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Toshihiro Kai! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
31 - 20 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Bruens! The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Radbod Blank and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Bruens looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Kai uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Kai lands with a kick to the ribs.
Bruens tried to score with a low kick but Kai checks it. Bruens avoids the head kick by Kai.
Bruens misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Kai.
Bruens shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kai pinned against the cage. Kai gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Bruens on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Kai thuds a left hand into Bruens's body. Kai wants to clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kai misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Kai tries to close the distance and clinch but Bruens swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. A chopping leg kick lands by Kai. Kai slips a jab from Bruens. Kai bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. A slow jab from Bruens misses its intended target.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bruens throws a big shot that misses. A telegraphed right hand from Bruens misses the target. Bruens closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Kai is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Bruens working the ground and pound from side control. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Bruens wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kai keeps working. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bruens in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Kai is trying to control Bruens's posture but Bruens avoids it. Kai takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Bruens working the head and body with strikes. Kai struggling a bit here. Sloppy strikes there by Bruens. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bruens goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Kai rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Bruens's guard! Nice work there by Kai! Kai won't allow Bruens to sweep him here. Kai tries to stand but Bruens is controlling from the bottom. Kai gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Kai works the jab nicely. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Kai takes a swing at Bruens's ribcage but misses. Kai throws a body kick that misses. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Toshihiro Kai will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Kai lands with a hook. Bruens tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Bruens misses with a low kick.
Kai slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Kai tries to land a leg kick but Bruens saw it coming and moves away.
Kai gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Kai utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Bruens chips away with some ground and pound. Bruens stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kai swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kai keeping moving, preventing Bruens from controlling successfully. Bruens keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kai's head. Bruens trying to control but Kai is working from the bottom. Bruens looking to pass the guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Bruens throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Kai works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Kai not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kai really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Kai utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Bruens throws an elbow that misses. Kai uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Bruens's guard. Nice move by Kai! Kai has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Bruens is proving hard to escape from.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Bruens lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Kai! Bruens looking to control but Kai is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Kai is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Kai is squirming around, avoiding Bruens's attempts to control the action. Kai in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Bruens trying to control but Kai is having none of it. Bruens has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Bruens misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Kai avoids a series of strikes thrown by Bruens.

Paul Bruens showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Bruens swings and misses with a shot to the body and Kai counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Bruens thinking. Kai smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Kai is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Good work by Kai as he checks the leg kick. Kai throws a hook but Bruens blocks it. Bruens tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kai sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Bruens somewhat. Kai pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A combination from Kai does no damage. Bruens swats away the attempt to clinch by Kai.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kai gets caught napping as Bruens dives in and scores a takedown. Kai manages to retain guard. Paul Bruens has got the better of the ground game so far. Bruens trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Kai manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Bruens has a closed guard, preventing Kai from standing up. Kai would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Bruens seems keen to control Kai's posture. The ref stands the fighters back up. Paul Bruens was stalling too much, according to the referee. Kai throws a jab when Bruens was well out of range.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Bruens ducks under a wild hook from Kai. Kai thuds his right hand into Bruens's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Kai throws a hook but Bruens blocks it. Kai tries to clinch but Bruens moves away and Bruens counters with a right hand to the body. Bruens takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Kai loads up on a big right hand but Bruens slips the punch. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Bruens closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kai circles away. Bruens fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kai avoids it really well and circles away. Toshihiro Kai has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Bruens. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Bruens will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Bruens changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kai tries to avoid it but Bruens manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kai to the ground. Kai escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Kai lands a jab to the head.

Oh, that's unlucky for Bruens but great work by Kai. Bruens manages to get back to half guard. Kai wants to stand but Bruens has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now. Bruens gets full guard. Toshihiro Kai has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Kai throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Bruens throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kai accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Kai trying to stand up but can't free himself from Bruens's guard. Bruens escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kai gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kai wants to stand but Bruens is controlling his posture from full guard. Bruens is pulling down on Kai's head. It's preventing any offense from Kai, at least for the moment. Kai will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Bruens working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Kai. Kai tries to stand but Bruens is controlling from the bottom. Kai postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kai wanted to stand there but Bruens had control of the position. Bruens preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Bruens trying to keep a closed guard but Kai is proving a slippery customer.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Bruens lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. A looping hook to the body misses from Bruens. Kai does a little dance to reset his feet. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Bruens ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Kai moves away. Bruens avoids the body shot from Kai.
Bruens bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
And that's the end of the fight! Paul Bruens comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Bruens has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
