Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joss Kyker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wes Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joss Kyker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Wes Alvarez!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kyker is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Alvarez's half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Kyker is taking a breather. Alvarez says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Alvarez slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Kyker forces his way into half guard.
Kyker is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Kyker has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Kyker slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Kyker avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Kyker wants to control from the top but Alvarez keeps moving.

Alvarez is looking for a triangle here but Kyker uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Kyker remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Kyker is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Alvarez is just riding it out for now. Kyker eventually gives up the hold.

Alvarez is looking for a sweep. Kyker is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Kyker perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Alvarez won't allow Kyker to pass to mount.

Kyker wants to lay and pray for a moment but Alvarez keeps working.

Kyker is looking to take a break and control but Alvarez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Alvarez is looking to regain half guard here but Kyker keeps moving and retains side control.
Kyker cracks Alvarez with a big elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Alvarez shoots in for a takedown but Kyker shows good takedown defense.

The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Kyker for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
Alvarez tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Kyker smiles and moves away.
Alvarez shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kyker as he avoids it easily.
Wes Alvarez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Alvarez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Alvarez is breathing heavily.
Kyker isn't going anywhere.
Kyker is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Alvarez off and has taken his back!
Kyker just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.
Joss Kyker overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Alvarez manages to reverse the position and now he's in Kyker's guard. Nice work there by Alvarez.

Kyker is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Alvarez is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Kyker is looking to sweep but instead, Alvarez has passed into half guard.
Kyker tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Alvarez has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Kyker is looking to get to half guard.
Kyker looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!

Kyker turns into Alvarez and is now in his guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Kyker instigates a clinch.
Alvarez is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Kyker gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Alvarez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Kyker gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Alvarez.

Kyker manages to break the clinch.
Alvarez closes the distance and clinches up with Kyker, looking for a takedown. Alvarez pushes Kyker against the cage but Kyker circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Joss Kyker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wes Alvarez.

Kyker is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Alvarez will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Kyker looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
You can see the frustration on Kyker's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kyker manages to reverse the position and now he's in Alvarez's guard. Nice work there by Kyker.
Kyker wants to control from the top but Alvarez keeps moving.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Alvarez throws his legs up looking for a submission but Kyker uses it to pass to side control.

Well Kyker has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
