PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phil Avent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harry van Seggelen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Phil Avent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Harry van Seggelen!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Richard Clark and James Ackerman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
van Seggelen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Avent pinned against the cage. Avent gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Avent fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with van Seggelen, pushing him back against the cage.
van Seggelen lands with a short head shot on the inside.
Avent wants a takedown but no success here.
Avent tries to score a body lock takedown but van Seggelen shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Avent stalling in the clinch but van Seggelen improves position.
Avent has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. van Seggelen avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phil Avent. That's going to take a lot out of him.
van Seggelen drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Avent gets the underhooks and prevents it.

van Seggelen breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Avent shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in van Seggelen's guard.
Avent content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
van Seggelen not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Avent is looking to stand up but van Seggelen won't let him.
van Seggelen wants to sweep here but Avent controlling him for the moment.
van Seggelen is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Avent decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on van Seggelen, up you get!
Avent clinches but van Seggelen breaks the clinch

and van Seggelen decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Avent's guard.
Avent is breathing heavily.
van Seggelen won't allow Avent to sweep him here.
van Seggelen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
van Seggelen wants to stand but Avent has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
van Seggelen is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

van Seggelen makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
van Seggelen tries to stand but Avent is controlling from the bottom.
Avent is controlling van Seggelen's posture.
van Seggelen stands and throws Avent's legs to the side, diving into side control.
van Seggelen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Avent. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Avent struggling a bit here.
Avent throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Avent is letting van Seggelen control him for a moment.

Avent tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Avent is working hard here to advance position.
van Seggelen advances to mount.
Avent is mounted and he's throwing punches. Is that wise?

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Avent is squirming around, avoiding van Seggelen's attempts to control the action.
Avent really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
van Seggelen can't control as he wanted to and Avent manages to get the fight back to his half guard.
Avent is looking to control van Seggelen's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Avent avoid being mounted?

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
van Seggelen lands with a nice combination. Avent backs away looking to recover.
Avent throws a head kick but van Seggelen moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Harry van Seggelen dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

so Avent counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
van Seggelen is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Avent pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. van Seggelen is keeping the position for now.
van Seggelen striking off his back but it's not causing Avent any problems.
Avent won't allow van Seggelen to sweep him here.
Avent stays in close to van Seggelen's body and controls the position.
Avent throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Avent forces his way into half guard.

van Seggelen is defending against the submission attempts here by Avent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
van Seggelen is trying to control but can't.

van Seggelen is looking to improve his position.
van Seggelen is trying to stand.

Avent is working for a kimura but van Seggelen is defending it quite comfortably.
Avent thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
van Seggelen is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Avent looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Avent missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
van Seggelen has hold of Avent's hands but Avent slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Avent has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Avent seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. van Seggelen is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
