Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tom Cirus! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeff Wood! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Colin Fray and Roger Salmon.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cirus closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Wood did well to prevent Cirus getting side control. Wood makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Wood. Cirus trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Cirus scoring with punches to the head and body. Wood has his foot on Cirus's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Cirus works his way back into a safe position though. Cirus postures up and lands a big shot to Wood's brow. Wood avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Wood looking for a sweep. Not yet Wood, not yet. Wood keeping moving, preventing Cirus from controlling successfully. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Cirus is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Cirus got a little sloppy there for a moment and Wood has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cirus has managed to get both his arms back between Wood's legs - danger averted. Cirus looking to sit in guard and control but Wood gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Cirus has a closed guard, preventing Wood from standing up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cirus lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Wood! Wood is desperately trying to improve his position but Cirus has a good base and remains in mount. Cirus breaks from Wood's wrist control and lands an elbow. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Cirus avoids the attempt from Wood to control. We've been hearing that Cirus has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Wood sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Wood is in trouble now - Cirus has advanced to mount! Wood is looking to get to half guard. Cirus scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Wood?
The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Cirus with a couple of short strikes.
Wood is rocked! Cirus looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Wood covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
