PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Josie Marquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Crazy Dog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marquez comes into the arena with the most annoying Mexican polka music you have heard in your life blaring out of the sound system. Dog has chosen Zombie as his entrance music. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Josie Marquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 15 - 2, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Crazy Dog!
The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Daniel Cesar and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dog with a lazy takedown attempt
and Marquez counters with a straight right hand.
Marquez moves into range and connects with a jab.
Dog slips under a jab.
Dog is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Marquez.
Marquez throws a poor cross that misses
and Dog counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Marquez misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Dog.
Dog misses with a double jab
and Marquez counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Marquez misses with an uppercut

and Dog counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dog stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Marquez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Marquez trying to keep a closed guard but Dog is proving a slippery customer.
Dog looking to sit in guard and control but Marquez gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Marquez trying to control but Dog is working from the bottom.
Marquez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dog is keeping the position for now.
Marquez won't allow Dog to sweep him here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Marquez controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

We're going to have a standup here because Josie Marquez wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Dog gets a double leg takedown into Marquez's guard.
Dog is looking to pass into half guard but Marquez pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Marquez is in guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dog is on top in guard.
Marquez looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Marquez is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dog trying to control the position from guard on top but Marquez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Dog looking to sit in guard and control but Marquez gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dog is on top in guard.

Marquez controls Dog momentarily but Dog frees himself.
Dog stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Marquez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Marquez is pulling down on Dog's head to control his posture.
Dog trying to control but Marquez is working from the bottom.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Dog trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Crazy Dog dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Marquez looks to land a right hand but Dog moved out of range.
Dog throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Dog pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Marquez back to the cage. Dog follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Marquez misses with a hook
and Dog counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Marquez throws an off balance right hand
and Dog counters with a nice uppercut.
Marquez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Dog.
Marquez takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Dog takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Dog walks into a jab.
Dog connects with a body shot that sends Marquez's belly button to the back.
Marquez misses with a hook. Dog ducked under it nicely.
Marquez misses with a double jab.
Dog goes for a double leg but Marquez avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Marquez continues to drive forward.

Dog tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Marquez just stands there and leans against the cage.
Josie Marquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Crazy Dog.
Marquez doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Marquez misses with the head strike.
Marquez has had enough of the clinch but Dog keeps him there for the moment.
Marquez wants to stall.
Marquez lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Dog backwards.

Marquez throws a looping overhand right but Dog ducks down to avoid it.

Dog shoots in looking for a takedown. Marquez tries to sprawl out of it but Dog keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Marquez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
The fighters circle momentarily. Marquez darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Marquez takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Dog throws a right and a left that both miss.
Josie Marquez is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Dog lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

Marquez gets caught napping as Dog dives in and scores a takedown. Marquez manages to retain guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Dog pushes down on Marquez's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Marquez is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Marquez is trying to maintain the position but Dog is very close to passing his half guard.

Dog wants to free his trapped foot but Marquez is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Dog not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Crazy Dog showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Dog uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Marquez.
Marquez throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Marquez takes a swing at Dog's ribcage but misses.
Dog fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Marquez avoids it really well and circles away.
Marquez misses with a hook.
Dog moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
A looping hook to the body misses from Marquez. Dog does a little dance to reset his feet.
Marquez lands an overhand right.
Dog takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Dog lands with a straight right. Marquez didn't see that one coming.
Marquez throws a big shot that misses.
Marquez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dog moves away.
Crazy Dog is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Dog misses with a few strikes there.
Marquez misses with a telegraphed body shot

and Dog counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Dog wants to control but Marquez is keeping him busy.

Marquez is defending against the submission attempts here by Dog.
Marquez is looking for a sweep. Dog is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Dog throwing shots but Marquez is blocking nicely.

The fighters are battling for position here. Marquez manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

OK we're going to have a standup here. Crazy Dog hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Marquez connects with a nice looking jab.
Josie Marquez has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Marquez moves out of range of the strikes.
Dog has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Marquez misses with a body shot.
Marquez takes a swing at Dog's ribcage but misses.
Dog fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Marquez manages to avoid it.
Dog throws a right hand that Marquez ducks under and follows up with a left that Marquez also avoids with ease.
Marquez thows a left - swing and a miss!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Dog counters with a left to the body.
Marquez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Dog sees it coming and avoids it easily.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Josie Marquez.
I think Dog has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
