Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Eric Rowler! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Raivo Hevi! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Taro Takaoka and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hevi fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Rowler closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Hevi defending against the ground and pound. Hevi parries the strikes from Rowler easily there. Rowler is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Hevi to escape.
Hevi really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rowler. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Rowler looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Rowler tries for a kimura but Hevi is defending well. Hevi is looking for a sweep. Rowler tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Rowler has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Hevi is trying to buck Rowler off. Hevi is not content to let Rowler control the position. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Hevi tries to improve position but can't. Hevi is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Rowler asserts his dominance and retains side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. You can see the frustration on Hevi's face as Rowler controls the position. Rowler in side control lands a decent elbow. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Hevi is looking to reverse the position. Rowler tries to move to mount but Hevi blocks the move with his legs. Hevi is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Rowler wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hevi, who protects the arm well. Rowler tries to advance to mount but can't. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Hevi is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Hevi is trying to get back to half guard. Hevi pushes Rowler away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Rowler gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rowler looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Rowler working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Rowler is breathing heavily. Hevi is trying to buck Rowler off. Hevi wants to control but Rowler postures up. Hevi tries to escape but Rowler is in control. Rowler is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hevi has escaped the position, nice work there. Rowler tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Rowler advances to mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rowler is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Hevi has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Hevi is desperately trying to improve his position but Rowler has a good base and remains in mount. Hevi is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Rowler scoring with strikes but Hevi is staying in there. Rowler trying to control but Hevi is having none of it. Hevi is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Rowler wants to control the pace but Hevi is squirming around nicely.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hevi keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Rowler tries to control but Hevi wriggling away. Rowler working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Hevi in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Hevi tries to get back to half guard but can't. Rowler postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Hevi looks a forlorn figure.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Rowler looking to isolate an arm here. Hevi doesn't see it coming and as Rowler extends the arm, he's forced to tap out! Nice submission by Rowler!
