Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Luiz Fabiano!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Spartan!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spartan works over Fabiano's head and body with a nice combination.
It looks like Luiz Fabiano has been cut.
Fabiano shoots for a takedown but Spartan saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Fabiano changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Spartan tries to avoid it but Fabiano manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Spartan to the ground. Spartan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Spartan keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luiz Fabiano. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fabiano will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Fabiano showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Spartan.
Spartan misses with a wild combination.
Some wild striking there from Spartan.
Fabiano shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Spartan pinned against the cage. Spartan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Fabiano doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Spartan counters with a series of strikes. Fabiano will be more careful next time no doubt.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Fabiano shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Spartan but Spartan pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Fabiano shoots and misses
and Spartan counters with a two punch combo.
Fabiano is rocked!
Spartan leaves Fabiano with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Spartan comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Fabiano is breathing heavily.
Fabiano has his takedown stuffed
and Spartan comes in over the top with a devastating right hand! Fabiano stumbles back against the cage, looking to regain his senses but Spartan is on him like rabid pit bull! Fabiano slumps to the ground under a storm of punches and this fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). John Spartan!
In his post fight interview, John Spartan started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
