Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 10 - 0, fighting out of London, Daniel McFadden! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Amelie Poulain! The judges for this bout are William Gold, Steven Brown and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Poulain gets a double leg takedown into McFadden's guard. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Poulain's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Poulain throwing strikes from guard but McFadden blocks nicely. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Poulain won't allow McFadden to get back to his feet. Poulain chips away with some ground and pound. Poulain seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. McFadden working for a triangle but Poulain defends it easily.
Poulain trying to control but McFadden is working from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Poulain is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Poulain cracks McFadden with a solid left hand. McFadden wants to stand up but Poulain is controlling him. Poulain distracts McFadden with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
That's one minute gone in the round. Poulain trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Poulain sitting in guard, not really doing much. Poulain is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Poulain's corner. There ya go! There ya go! McFadden is looking for a triangle but Poulain pushes his legs off easily.
Poulain trying to control the position from guard on top but McFadden is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. McFadden working for submissions but it's allowed Poulain to get to half guard.
Poulain wants to take a breather but McFadden is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. McFadden pushes Poulain off and gets back to his feet. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. McFadden shoots in for a takedown but Poulain shows good takedown defense. McFadden doesn't manage to clinch there - Poulain circles away.
McFadden shoots in for a double leg but Poulain sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Poulain displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from McFadden. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel McFadden. That's going to take a lot out of him. McFadden tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him. McFadden looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Poulain scores with a push kick. McFadden has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Poulain. McFadden is breathing heavily. McFadden gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Poulain counters with a nice double leg into side control. McFadden won't be happy with that. Poulain works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Poulain scores with a big shot from side control... and another... and another! Oh McFadden is done here - save him referee! More strikes land and eventually the ref does step in and Poulain can finally stop beating on his defenseless opponent!
