PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jenji Ueda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kotaro Fuma (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ueda comes into the arena with Requiem for a Dream blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Jenji Ueda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 47 - 2, fighting out of Tokyo, Kotaro Fuma!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Shigeki Sano and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ueda changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Fuma looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Ueda takes a little break here. Fuma wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Fuma parries the strikes from Ueda easily there. Ueda is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Fuma to escape.
Ueda wants to stand but Fuma is controlling his arm.
Fuma on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
Ueda in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.

Ueda tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ueda has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Fuma is trying to control Ueda's posture but Ueda avoids it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fuma takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Ueda lands a few punches from side control.
Ueda creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Fuma sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Ueda has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Fuma!
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Ueda cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Ueda looking to control and managing it successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Ueda looking to finish Fuma with some ground and pound. This is bad for Fuma!
Ueda takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Fuma is looking to get to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ueda lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Ueda tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Ueda working for a submission but Fuma is keeping him at bay.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fuma is wriggling around trying to escape.
Ueda breaks from Fuma's wrist control and lands an elbow.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ueda sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Ueda has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Ueda cracks Fuma with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jenji Ueda dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Ueda closes the distance and clinches.
Fuma goes for a takedown in the clinch but Ueda prevents it.
Ueda is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Fuma can do to turn this around?

Ueda drags the fight down to the ground.
Ueda is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Fuma wants to stand but Ueda has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Fuma really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ueda. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ueda is pulling down on Fuma's head to control his posture.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Jenji Ueda wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Ueda fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Fuma looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Jenji Ueda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fuma takes a kick to the side of the head.

Ueda feints and as Fuma raises his hands in defense, Ueda changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Fuma utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Fuma wants to sweep here but Ueda controlling him for the moment.
Ueda passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Ueda lands some shots froms side control.


Fuma is rocked!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Check out the look on Ueda's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Fuma is still in real trouble! Can Ueda finish him?
A lull in the action here as Ueda stalls from top position.
Ueda lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Ueda cracks Fuma with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Ueda immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Fuma is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Ueda!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jenji Ueda!
An out of breath Jenji Ueda thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
