The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jackson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Jackson fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Jackson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Monsoon swivels and escapes. Tim Monsoon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Steven Jackson. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Jackson is defended easily by Monsoon. Jackson misses with a takedown attempt and Monsoon counters with a nice low kick that buckles Jackson's knee momentarily. Monsoon lands a jab to the nose.
It looks like Steven Jackson has been cut. Jackson shoots in and drives through. Monsoon sprawls well. Monsoon drops Jackson with a nice combination! Monsoon dives into Jackson's guard, looking to finish!
Jackson looks winded! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Monsoon throwing strikes from guard but Jackson blocks nicely. Monsoon stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jackson swivels though and keeps the full guard. Monsoon wants to control from the top but Jackson keeps moving. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Monsoon scoring with punches to the head and body. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jackson can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jackson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Monsoon wants to control from the top but Jackson keeps moving. Monsoon with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Jackson is pulling down on Monsoon's head. It's preventing any offense from Monsoon, at least for the moment. Jackson keeping moving, preventing Monsoon from controlling successfully. Monsoon with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Monsoon trying to control the position from guard on top but Jackson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Monsoon missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jackson controlling Monsoon's posture. Jackson keeping moving, preventing Monsoon from controlling successfully. Monsoon will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Monsoon throwing strikes from guard but Jackson blocks nicely. Monsoon throws a big elbow that misses. Jackson has control of Monsoon's left arm, preventing Monsoon from doing any damage.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Jackson shoots in looking for a takedown but Monsoon manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jackson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Steven Jackson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. This has been an exciting period of action! Jackson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Monsoon but Monsoon pushes him off and we're back to square one. Monsoon shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Jackson sprawls well. Jackson wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Monsoon gets slowly back to his feet. Jackson is trying desperately to land a takedown but Monsoon is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Jackson.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Monsoon lands a nice looking body shot.
Nice shot by Monsoon. Monsoon lands a nice hook to Jackson's body. Jackson takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Jackson shoots in for a takedown but Monsoon shows good takedown defense. Nice jab there from Monsoon.
That has opened up Steven Jackson's cut even more. Monsoon sizes up Jackson with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Monsoon is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. This has been an exciting period of action! Monsoon lands with a jab that stuns his opponent. Jackson is looking to close the distance but Monsoon sees it coming and throws a beautiful knee! Jackson crumbles to the mat and that's all she wrote! Let's hope Jackson is OK because that was naaaaaasty!
