Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mike OMalley! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Eric Northman! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Chris Saunders and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Northman misses with a wild combination.
Northman fails in his attempt to clinch. OMalley tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Northman defends well and OMalley ends up having to push Northman into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch. Northman avoiding damage.
Northman tries to break free but OMalley pushes him back against the ropes. Northman escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A jab from OMalley finds it's way through Northman's defenses. Northman goes for a high kick. It partially lands. OMalley scores with a jab. Northman acknowledges it with a nod of the head. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. A right-left combo lands from OMalley. OMalley definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. OMalley avoids a kick to the body.
OMalley shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Northman tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Nice takedown defense from Northman. No joy for OMalley on that attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike OMalley. That's going to take a lot out of him. OMalley gets a takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. OMalley seems to be looking for submissions.
OMalley not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. OMalley wants to work for an arm triangle but Northman is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
OMalley trying to mount his opponent but Northman defends it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. OMalley missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. OMalley has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Northman defend it? OMalley steps over the head and cranks it - Northman is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for OMalley!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Mike OMalley! Mike OMalley really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Fight Night Nutrition logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
