Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Aapo Kalypsi! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Werner Pinzner! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kalypsi misses with a body kick. Kalypsi has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Pinzner finds it's way round the side to connect with Kalypsi's head. Kalypsi lands with a thumping leg kick.
Kalypsi throws the left hand but Pinzner avoids the punch easily. Kalypsi throws a half hearted mid kick. Pinzner lands a leg kick that knocks Kalypsi off balance momentarily. Kalypsi takes one to the chin there. Kalypsi misses with a wild body shot. Kalypsi tries a head kick but it misses.
Pinzner circles away from the clinch attempt.
Kalypsi lands a leg kick that knocks Pinzner off balance momentarily. Kalypsi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pinzner but Pinzner pushes him off and we're back to square one. Kalypsi looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Pinzner misses with a body shot.
Pinzner is looking to chop away at Kalypsi's legs. Kalypsi cracks Pinzner with a right hand to the side of the head. Kalypsi thows a body shot but no joy.

Kalypsi has his takedown stuffed and Pinzner counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Kalypsi thinking. Pinzner takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Nice uppercut there from Pinzner. Kalypsi scores with a hook to the body. Pinzner takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Pinzner misses with an uppercut. Pinzner lands a jab to Kalypsi's midsection. Kalypsi throws a shot from downtown. Pinzner moves away and avoids it. A momentary lapse in concentration from Pinzner enables Kalypsi to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Pinzner manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. This has been an exciting period of action! Pinzner utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Kalypsi preventing the sweep. Kalypsi is looking to work some ground and pound but Pinzner has wrist control. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kalypsi accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kalypsi trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Kalypsi trying to control but Pinzner is working from the bottom. Kalypsi looking to sit in guard and control but Pinzner gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Kalypsi is trying to keep Pinzner in close.
Kalypsi is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Kalypsi not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kalypsi has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pinzner can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kalypsi looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Pinzner wants to control from the top but Kalypsi keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kalypsi manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pinzner manages to get himself to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kalypsi trying to control the position from guard on top but Pinzner is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Pinzner seems keen to control Kalypsi's posture. We've been hearing that Kalypsi has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Kalypsi trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Pinzner has control of Kalypsi's left arm, preventing Kalypsi from doing any damage. Kalypsi looking to pass the guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Werner Pinzner. Nice uppercut lands for Pinzner. That snapped Kalypsi's head back.
Kalypsi tries to clinch up. Kalypsi throws a jab when Pinzner was well out of range. Pinzner throws out a leg kick but Kalypsi moves out of range and Pinzner only half commits.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kalypsi misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aapo Kalypsi. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kalypsi doesn't manage to clinch there - Pinzner circles away.
Pinzner takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it. An inside leg kick from Pinzner misses. Pinzner lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Kalypsi tries to clinch there but Pinzner circles away.

Kalypsi is looking to slow Pinzner down with leg kicks. Kalypsi looks for a takedown but Pinzner sprawls well. Pinzner wants to slow Kalypsi down by chopping away at his legs. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Kalypsi throws a hook but Pinzner avoids it easily. Kalypsi walks into a jab. Kalypsi wants to clinch but Pinzner slips to the side and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Kalypsi swinging wildly here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Aapo Kalypsi will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Pinzner working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Kalypsi. Kalypsi postures up in Pinzner's guard and throws a big left but Pinzner blocks it. Pinzner keeping moving, preventing Kalypsi from controlling successfully. Kalypsi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Kalypsi is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kalypsi landing with the ground and pound. Kalypsi tries to free his leg and advance position but Pinzner is retaining full guard. Kalypsi loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Kalypsi passes into half guard. Kalypsi landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Pinzner is trying to get back to full guard. Kalypsi stops Pinzner from getting back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Aapo Kalypsi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Kalypsi looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Pinzner won't allow Kalypsi to pass to mount. Pinzner has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kalypsi is working away from the top position though. Pinzner might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kalypsi haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. This has been an exciting period of action! Kalypsi is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Pinzner reverses the position - he's now on top in Kalypsi's guard.

Kalypsi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pinzner swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Pinzner looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Kalypsi throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Kalypsi misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Pinzner.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Pinzner.
Kalypsi shoots in and drives through. Pinzner sprawls well. Pinzner slips under a jab from Kalypsi. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kalypsi clinches up with Pinzner and pushes him back against the cage. Kalypsi tries to throw a body punch but Pinzner avoids it by throwing Kalypsi back against the cage. Kalypsi lands with a light punch inside. Kalypsi throws a head punch that misses. Pinzner lands with a left to the head. Kalypsi fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Pinzner lands a right hand that snaps the head of Kalypsi backwards. Kalypsi drops down looking for an ankle pick but Pinzner pulls his leg out and moves away.
Pinzner stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pinzner wants it to stay on the feet. Pinzner connects with a body shot. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Kalypsi swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kalypsi misses with a hook. Pinzner ducked under it nicely. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Pinzner, as that shot connected.
Pinzner lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Pinzner misses with a low kick.
Kalypsi cracks Pinzner with a good jab. Kalypsi connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Pinzner blocks the body kick.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kalypsi. Pinzner misses with a series of wild punches.
Kalypsi connects with the punch. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Pinzner jabs Kalypsi to the body, keeping him at a distance.

Kalypsi closes this distance looking for a takedown but Pinzner circles away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aapo Kalypsi. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kalypsi closes the distance and clinches up with Pinzner, looking for a takedown. Kalypsi pushes Pinzner against the cage but Pinzner circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. An inside leg kick lands from Pinzner. Kalypsi throws a right hand that Pinzner ducks under and follows up with a left that Pinzner also avoids with ease. Nice shot by Pinzner. Kalypsi keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Oh Kalypsi is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Pinzner clinches. Pinzner just leaning against Kalypsi, taking a breather. Pinzner working some nice short punches in the clinch. Pinzner is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Pinzner lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Kalypsi backwards. A head punch blocked on the inside by Pinzner. Pinzner lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Kalypsi to his knees! Pinzner keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Werner Pinzner! Werner Pinzner retains his welterweight title! Our winner, Werner Pinzner, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
