Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Michael Crawford! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Yasser Arafat! The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A left lands for Arafat. A jab from Arafat misses. Arafat ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world. Crawford closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Arafat's guard. Crawford is stalling in the full guard. Crawford drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Crawford jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Arafat has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Crawford seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Crawford seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Arafat for as long as he can get away with. Arafat keeping moving, preventing Crawford from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Michael Crawford just wasn't active enough. Arafat lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Crawford tries to clinch but Arafat moves out of range. Arafat cracks Crawford with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Arafat misses with a looping left. Arafat misses with a lunging right hand
and Crawford counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Crawford has Arafat pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Crawford pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Arafat tumbling to the mat - Crawford dives into Arafat's guard. Crawford slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Crawford wants to lay and pray for a moment but Arafat keeps working. Crawford looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. Arafat wants to get back to his feet but Crawford drags him back down. Crawford happy to just control the position for now. Crawford tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Crawford has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! This has been an exciting period of action! Arafat can't do much from the bottom here. Crawford working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Crawford has hold of Arafat's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Arafat tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Crawford cranks the arm and Arafat screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Arafat, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
