The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nowak has a takedown stuffed.
Sampson is looking to clinch but Nowak is avoiding it.

Sampson moves in looking to clinch but Nowak pushes him off.
Sampson slaps away a takedown attempt from Nowak, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Sampson lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Nowak backwards.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by John Sampson.
Sampson tries to clinch there but Nowak circles away.
John Sampson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
That kick from Nowak tenderised Sampson's leg. Sampson is trying to keep his angry face on.

and Sampson holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Nowak tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Nowak has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Sampson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Nowak is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Sampson to keep the fight standing.

Nowak jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Sampson walks away with a smile on his face. Nowak gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Sampson is looking to clinch but Nowak is avoiding it.
Nowak avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
The fight stays on the outside here - Sampson looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Sampson misses with a hook
and Nowak counters with a left and a right that stings Sampson.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Sampson fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Nowak, pushing him back against the cage.
Nowak is trying to pull guard but Sampson has him pressed against the cage.
Sampson lands a shoulder strike.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
Nowak jumps guard but Sampson turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A short body shot lands from Sampson as the two fighters clinch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Sampson.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Sampson dominated that round.

Sampson has managed to clinch.

Sampson throws a big uppercut that drops Nowak! More strikes from Sampson and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Nowak lies dazed against the cage as Sampson celebrates with his cornermen!
