Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sadaharu Tanikawa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Stig Helmer!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Jonathan Paton and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Helmer looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Tanikawa!

Helmer is trying to get an arm triangle but Tanikawa is defending well.
Tanikawa struggling a bit here.
Helmer lands an elbow.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Helmer postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Tanikawa can't do much from the bottom here.
Tanikawa manages to get back to half guard.
Tanikawa wants to improve his position but Helmer is controlling well.

Helmer looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Tanikawa tries to roll over but Helmer keeps him under control.

Tanikawa is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Helmer's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Helmer's back!

It looks like Stig Helmer has been cut.
I really don't envy Helmer right now.
Helmer turns into Tanikawa and is now in his guard.

My spies in GnP Factory Elite Gym inform me that Helmer has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Helmer throws a strike but Tanikawa rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Helmer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

That has opened up Stig Helmer's cut even more.

Helmer had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Tanikawa defends it easily.
Helmer is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Tanikawa content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.


The cut above Stig Helmer's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

Tanikawa working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Tanikawa might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Helmer is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Tanikawa distracts Helmer with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Stig Helmer's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Stig Helmer's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Sadaharu Tanikawa!
An out of breath Sadaharu Tanikawa thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
