PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Josh Saffy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shawn Robinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Saffy comes into the arena with Still Unbroken blaring out of the sound system. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Josh Saffy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shawn Robinson!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Steve Montenegro and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saffy changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Robinson tries to avoid it but Saffy manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Robinson to the ground. Robinson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Saffy.
A head kick misses from Robinson.
Saffy throws a nice outside leg kick.
Saffy moves in looking to clinch but Robinson pushes him off.
Saffy fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josh Saffy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Robinson tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Saffy defends well and Robinson ends up having to push Saffy into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Robinson is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Saffy's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Saffy is keen to just control but Robinson is a slippery customer.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Saffy is looking for a kimura but Robinson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Saffy to get the leverage.

Saffy is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Saffy is keen to just control but Robinson is a slippery customer.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Robinson closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Saffy fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Saffy.
Saffy shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Robinson defends it nicely.
Saffy is breathing heavily.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Robinson is defended easily by Saffy.

That was a close round but I would say that Josh Saffy will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

We're going to have a standup here because Josh Saffy wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Horrible takedown by Robinson or perhaps it was just good defense by Saffy which made him look bad.
Josh Saffy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Saffy throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Robinson's waist but Robinson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Saffy off to one side.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Josh Saffy is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Robinson wants to get up but he can't break Saffy's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Robinson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

I would just about give that final round to Shawn Robinson.

A very excited looking Josh Saffy rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
