Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alderic Alexander! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jimmy Palmer! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Steve Smith and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alexander connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Alexander looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight. Alexander swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Palmer just misses with a punch to the body.
We've been informed that Palmer has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Palmer jabs at Alexander's body. Palmer jabbing away but nothing is landing. Palmer closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Palmer thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Alexander's head. Palmer winds up and cracks Alexander with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Palmer drops an elbow to the side of Alexander's head. Palmer wants to control but Alexander is keeping him busy. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Alexander blocking the ground and pound attempt from Palmer. Palmer performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Alexander keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Palmer prevents Alexander from standing back up.
Palmer missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Palmer has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Palmer content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Palmer wants to take a breather but Alexander is having none of it. Palmer not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Palmer lands a nice short elbow. Palmer thows a huge punch but Alexander dodges it nicely.
Palmer thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Alexander's head. Alexander is staying active underneath Palmer, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Palmer working the head and body with strikes. Palmer stops Alexander from getting back to his feet.
Alexander is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Palmer lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. This has been an exciting period of action! Palmer is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Alexander is hurt! He's hurt bad - Palmer fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Alexander from any more punishment! Congratulations to Palmer! Great finish!
