Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Israel Whetu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Asa Du (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Winston Howard and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A lazy left from Whetu finds it's target.
Du takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Du has closed the distance and engaged Whetu in a clinch.
Whetu tries to land a knee to the head but Du blocks with his arms.
Du misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Whetu avoids the elbow strike from Du, against the cage.
Whetu tries to break the clinch but Du is controlling the position.

Whetu has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Du is working away from the top position though.
Du throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Whetu to regain full guard.

Du looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.

The fight stays on the outside here - Du looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Whetu closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Whetu is keen to just control but Du is a slippery customer.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Whetu thows a huge punch but Du dodges it nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Du wants to control but Whetu is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Du throws a low kick but it's checked well by Whetu.
A punch lands to the side of Du 's head but he takes it in his stride.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Whetu here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Du is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Whetu is defending well for now.

Whetu fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Du, pushing him back against the cage.

Du takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Du pulls guard effortlessly.
Whetu throws an elbow that misses. Du uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Whetu's guard. Nice move by Du!
Whetu manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Du manages to get himself to full guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Whetu's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Whetu throws a strike but Du rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Israel Whetu overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Du would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Du accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
