Hathaway looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Altright felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Hathaway has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Fredrick Altright hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Altright changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hathaway tries to avoid it but Altright manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hathaway to the ground. Hathaway escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Altright will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Altright tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Hathaway manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Altright is trying to control Hathaway's posture but Hathaway avoids it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hathaway remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
