The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Altright fails with an attempt to clinch.
Altright closes the distance and clinches. Hathaway looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Altright can't break the clinch.
Hathaway manages to pull guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Hathaway has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Altright must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
That's one minute gone in the round. Altright throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Hathaway has his hands on Altright's head, controlling the position.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Mike Hathaway wasn't doing enough on the ground. Hathaway on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Altright. Altright obviously looking to wear him down.
Altright's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Altright duly obliges. Hathaway takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Altright fakes the leg kick and cracks Hathaway in the body. Altright tries to score a power double leg takedown but Hathaway sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Altright somewhat. Hathaway defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Altright.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hathaway moves into the clinch. Altright is trying to break the clinch but Hathaway is controlling him. Altright trying to control the position but instead, Hathaway has worked for underhooks and has pushed Altright into the ropes. Altright wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Altright looking to sit in guard and control but Hathaway gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Hathaway works over Altright with some ground and pound from guard. Hathaway works a leg free and moves into half guard. Altright is looking to get back to is feet but Hathaway passes into side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hathaway working the ground and pound. Hathaway definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Altright is looking to reverse the position. Altright stops Hathaway from passing to mount. Hathaway wants to lay and pray for a moment but Altright keeps working. Hathaway scores with a couple of short elbows. Hathaway working the head with strikes. Hathaway misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Hathaway works to advance to full mount. Altright defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Hathaway with good strikes from the mount here! Hathaway lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hathaway with good strikes from the mount here! Altright felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Altright defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Hathaway. Hathaway has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Altright in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Hathaway looking to finish Altright with some ground and pound. This is bad for Altright! Hathaway can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Altright is looking to escape. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Altright can do anything to dispel that myth. Altright wants to control but Hathaway is having none of it. Altright really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hathaway. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Hathaway in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Altright taking shots to the head. Hathaway lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hathaway looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Altright is fending him off so far but Hathaway persists. Nope, Altright circles away and we're back to standing. Hathaway swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Altright shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Hathaway counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Hathaway. Hathaway is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Altright is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hathaway is controlling him. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Altright working a defensive guard here.

Hathaway wants to control from the top but Altright keeps moving. Hathaway stands up over Altright, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Altright is trying to keep Hathaway in close.

Hathaway got a little sloppy there for a moment and Altright has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hathaway has managed to get both his arms back between Altright's legs - danger averted. Hammerfist, elbow! yells Hathaway's corner. There ya go! There ya go! Hathaway wants to control from the top but Altright keeps moving. Altright is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Hathaway scoring with some ground and pound. Hathaway won't allow Altright to sweep him here. Hathaway trying to stand up but can't free himself from Altright's guard. Altright controls Hathaway momentarily but Hathaway frees himself. Hathaway not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Fredrick Altright hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Altright changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hathaway tries to avoid it but Altright manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hathaway to the ground. Hathaway escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Altright will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Mike Hathaway has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fredrick Altright. Altright fails to land the takedown.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Altright tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Hathaway manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Altright moves to clinch but Hathaway breaks away and Hathaway counters with a nice double leg into guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Hathaway passes easily into side control. Nice work. Altright is not content to let Hathaway control the position. Altright is trying to control Hathaway's posture but Hathaway avoids it. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hathaway remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hathaway drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Altright has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hathaway can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Hathaway connects with a couple of short punches. Hathaway distracts Altright with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Hathaway postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Hathaway showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Hathaway stops Altright from standing up.

Hathaway is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Altright can do to turn this around? Hathaway working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Altright's head. Altright is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Altright takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Altright wants to control the action here but instead Hathaway manages to pass to full mount! Hathaway dominating with strikes here. Mike Hathaway overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hathaway punishing his opponent with strikes. Hathaway looking to finish Altright with some ground and pound. This is bad for Altright! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The referee warns Altright that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Altright tries to lock up and control but Hathaway gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Altright in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Hathaway postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Altright in real trouble here! The ref calls for Altright to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!
