Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roman Hyatt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kenan Long! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Emerson Jorge and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Long shoots and misses and Hyatt lands a stunning uppercut that sends Long to the mat!
It looks like Kenan Long has been cut. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Hyatt missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Well, if Hyatt is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Long tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Long tries to get to full guard but Hyatt has control of the leg. Long actively working from the bottom here. Hyatt knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Long on the ground. Long is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hyatt perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Hyatt is trying to work for a kimura but Long is defending well.
Long is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hyatt pulls his head out easily. Hyatt looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
That's one minute gone in the round. Long is looking to improve his position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hyatt in particular looking to stall. Long is trying to get back to full guard. Long actively working from the bottom here. Long should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Long looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Hyatt performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Long looking for submissions off his back. Hyatt controlling the pace.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Long looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Long tries to roll over but Hyatt keeps him under control. Hyatt performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Long looking for submissions off his back. Hyatt is taking a breather. Long says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. This has been an exciting period of action! Long looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Long looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Hyatt sitting and controlling from the half guard. Long is trying to get back to full guard. Hyatt controlling the action here. Long misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Hyatt is controlling the pace.
We're going to have a standup here because Roman Hyatt wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Long shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hyatt as he jumps to the side.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A looping hook to the body misses from Hyatt. Long does a little dance to reset his feet. Hyatt with a nice cross. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hyatt stuffs the takedown. Roman Hyatt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenan Long. Hyatt swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Long shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hyatt as he jumps to the side. Long ducks straight into an uppercut from Hyatt and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Long manages to regain guard straight away.
Long is rocked!
That has opened up Kenan Long's cut even more. Long looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Long is still in real trouble! Can Hyatt finish him? Hyatt forces his way into half guard. Hyatt is taking a breather. Long says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Long seems to have recovered his senses. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Roman Hyatt dominated that round. The cut man is working on Kenan Long's cut. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Hyatt scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Nice sprawl there from Hyatt as Long shoots in. Long fails with the takedown and Hyatt counters with a right hand that sends Long tumbling to the canvas! Can Hyatt finish him? He dives into Long's guard looking to do just that! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Hyatt is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Long looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Hyatt has picked Long up and slammed him! Long can't keep hold of the triangle and Hyatt manages to pass to side control! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Long is looking for a sweep. Roman Hyatt overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hyatt is staying tight to Long's torso, preventing him from escaping. Hyatt moves into full mount! Hyatt takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's one minute gone in the round. Long can't escape the position.
Hyatt content just to control the position here. Long sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Hyatt sitting and controlling from the half guard.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Roman Hyatt just wasn't active enough. Hyatt ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Long moves away. Hyatt misses with a body shot.
Long fails with the takedown letting Hyatt counter with a right hand. Roman Hyatt has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kenan Long.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Long shoots in but no luck this time. Hyatt throws an uppercut from hell that sends Long clean off his feet! He's out cold! Hyatt stands back and admires his work as he thinks about that KO of the night award that is surely being wrapped up for him back stage.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:15 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Roman Hyatt!
