PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between London Oswalt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lloyd Irvin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Oswalt kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Country Boy can Survive. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lloyd Irvin!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, John Roberts and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice takedown defense from Oswalt. No joy for Irvin on that attempt.

Oswalt closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Irvin to the mat! Irvin manages to get full guard.
Oswalt postures up.
Oswalt pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Irvin is keeping the position for now.
Irvin is trying to control the position but Oswalt postures up.
Irvin has a closed guard, preventing Oswalt from standing up.
Irvin is looking to stand up but Oswalt isn't so interested in that idea.

Irvin has his foot on Oswalt's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Oswalt works his way back into a safe position though.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

so Oswalt counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Irvin looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Oswalt has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Oswalt is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Oswalt knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Irvin on the ground.
Oswalt seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Irvin chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Oswalt can pounce on him.

Oswalt drives through and clinches with Irvin against the cage.

Oswalt drags the fight down to the ground.
Irvin wants to stand but Oswalt has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Oswalt throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Oswalt is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Irvin throws a lazy head kick

and Oswalt counters with a shoot takedown. Irvin fights it but they end up in guard.
Oswalt has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Irvin is proving hard to escape from.

Irvin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Oswalt is one step ahead there.

Irvin wants to hit a switch here but Oswalt passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Irvin there!
Irvin is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.

Irvin is squirming around, avoiding Oswalt's attempts to control the action.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Irvin tries to hold on but Oswalt postures up.
Oswalt controlling the position easily from mount.
Irvin manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Oswalt looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Irvin wants to sweep but Oswalt has passed to side control!

Oswalt decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Irvin closes the distance but Oswalt moves to the side

and Oswalt counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Irvin is trying to keep Oswalt in close.
Oswalt is looking to work some ground and pound but Irvin has wrist control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Oswalt postures up.
Oswalt trying to control the position from guard on top but Irvin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Irvin is working an open guard so Oswalt takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Oswalt has closed the distance and engaged Irvin in a clinch.
The is referee keeping an eye on Oswalt - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Oswalt pulls guard.
Oswalt is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Irvin is controlling him.

Oswalt pushes Irvin off and scrambles back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

London Oswalt dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Irvin tries a head kick but it misses.

Oswalt decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Irvin is trying to maintain the position but Oswalt is very close to passing his half guard.

Oswalt lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Irvin is squirming around, avoiding Oswalt's attempts to control the action.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Oswalt trying to control but Irvin is having none of it.
Irvin is working to get back to half guard.
Oswalt controlling from mount.

And that's the end of the fight!
London Oswalt showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Oswalt has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
