Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Samuel Etherton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jesus Gaarlandt!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Donatello Bradman and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gaarlandt looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Etherton tries to get to full guard but Gaarlandt has control of the leg.
Etherton misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Etherton wants to get back to full guard.
Gaarlandt moves into full mount! Etherton won't be happy about that!
Gaarlandt is stalling here but it's allowed Etherton to get half guard.
Gaarlandt is thwarting Etherton's attempts to control the position.
Gaarlandt wants to work for an arm triangle but Etherton is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Gaarlandt tries to pass to full mount but Etherton defends it.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Etherton trying to control but Gaarlandt postures up.
Gaarlandt performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Gaarlandt moves nicely into side control.
You can see the frustration on Etherton's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Gaarlandt decides to stand back up. Gaarlandt steps back and let's Etherton get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Horrible takedown by Gaarlandt or perhaps it was just good defense by Etherton which made him look bad.
Etherton works the jab nicely.
Gaarlandt lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Etherton circles away quickly and effectively.
Gaarlandt gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Etherton to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Gaarlandt is trying to control the position but Etherton postures up.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gaarlandt is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Etherton has his hands clasped together but Gaarlandt extends and breaks Etherton's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Gaarlandt.
