Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dylan Todd! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Josh Edwards! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Joseph Jones and Steve Montenegro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fight moves into the clinch position. Todd is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Edwards gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Edwards breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Edwards slaps away a takedown attempt from Todd, before circling back to the center of the mat. Todd fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dylan Todd. That's going to take a lot out of him. Edwards misses with a jab, cross combination.
Edwards works the jab nicely. Edwards tries to bum rush Todd with a series of wild strikes but Todd uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Edwards throws a series of punches but Todd moves out of range. Todd darts in looking for a takedown but Edwards gets double underhooks and turns Todd into the cage. Todd drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Edwards gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Todd has clasped his hands together around Edwards's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
That's one minute gone in the round. Todd thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Todd tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Todd has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Todd wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Edwards, who protects the arm well. Todd is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Edwards is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Edwards is trying to get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Todd tries to move into full mount but can't pass Edwards's legs. Todd is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Edwards has escaped the position, nice work there. Todd tries for a kimura but Edwards is defending well. Edwards tries to escape but Todd is in control. Todd tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Edwards wants to get back to his feet.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Todd is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Edwards is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Edwards is trying to buck Todd off. Todd tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Todd swings around for an armbar but Edwards sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Todd's guard. Todd definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Edwards really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Todd. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Edwards is stalling in the full guard. Todd working for a triangle but Edwards defends it easily.
Edwards seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dylan Todd dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Todd with a lazy takedown attempt and Todd takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Edwards throws a leg kick and Todd counters with a nice double leg into side control. Edwards won't be happy with that. Todd is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Edwards knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Todd tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Todd has hold of Edwards's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Edwards tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Todd cranks the arm and Edwards screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Edwards, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Dylan Todd! Dylan Todd was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
