PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Sheen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ace Vasco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sheen comes to the cage accompanied by Mighty Ducks. Ace Vasco will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marcus Sheen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ace Vasco!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, William Peck and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sheen tries to close the distance and clinch up but Vasco swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Sheen has closed the distance and engaged Vasco in a clinch.

Sheen breaks from the clinch.
Sheen misses with a jab, cross combination.
Sheen throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
No luck for Vasco with that takedown attempt.
Vasco fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Sheen.
Sheen looks to land a combination but Vasco avoids it well.
Vasco shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sheen but Sheen pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Sheen misses with a looping right.
A combination from Sheen does no damage.

Vasco darts in and clinches Sheen up against the cage.

Vasco breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Vasco avoids a punch combination nicely.
Sheen throws a right and a left that Vasco avoids nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Sheen.

Sheen working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Sheen tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sheen has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Vasco tries to bench press Sheen off him but Sheen keeps the position.
Vasco struggling a bit here.
Vasco is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Sheen wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Vasco, who protects the arm well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vasco manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Vasco really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sheen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Vasco controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Sheen throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Vasco moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Sheen won't allow Vasco to sweep him here.
Vasco is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Vasco looking for a guillotine here but Sheen defends easily.
Vasco looking to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vasco is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Vasco looks gassed!
Vasco trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Sheen shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Vasco but Vasco pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Vasco!
Vasco slips a jab and a cross from Sheen.
Sheen throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Vasco fakes the leg kick and cracks Sheen in the body.
Sheen fails with the takedown.
Vasco fails in his attempt to clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Sheen darts in trying to clinch
and Vasco counters with a nice kick to the body.
Vasco throws a nice inside leg kick.
Sheen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Sheen.
Vasco is trying to get back to half guard.

Sheen looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Marcus Sheen will probably get the nod.
That's time! Sheen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Vasco moves in looking to clinch but Sheen pushes him off.
Vasco throws a sloppy head kick and Sheen moves out of range easily.

Sheen gets the takedown into side control.
Vasco is looking for a sweep.

Sheen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Vasco has escaped the position, nice work there.
Vasco gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Vasco is in all sorts of trouble here.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Vasco is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sheen lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Vasco hang on?

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sheen can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Vasco is looking to escape.
Vasco is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Sheen has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Vasco's face.
Sheen raining down shots from the mount!
Sheen pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Sheen prevents Vasco from getting the reversal.

Sheen has hold of Vasco's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Vasco manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Vasco wants to hold on but Sheen pushes him away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Sheen working away from the top, dropping strikes.
Sheen unloading with bombs!
Vasco tries to reverse the position but Sheen maintains control.
Vasco tries to control Sheen's body but Sheen pushes him off. Vasco squirms to his side and now Sheen has his back!
Sheen softening up his opponent with strikes here.

Sheen is working for the choke. He's slipped one arm under the chin. Vasco has to defend the other arm for all he's worth... but Sheen has managed to get that arm free too and he's tightening the choke! Vasco taps out and looks absolutely disgusted with himself. Sheen doesn't care though - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:47 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Marcus Sheen!
