PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Joe Hollis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dexter Morgan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hollis comes to the cage accompanied by UGK - Pocket Full of Stones. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joe Hollis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dexter Morgan!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Robert Twigg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hollis smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Hollis misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Morgan.
Morgan takes a head kick and shrugs it off.


It looks like Dexter Morgan has been cut.
Morgan shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Hollis pinned against the cage. Hollis gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Nice shot by Morgan.
Hollis uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Morgan.
Hollis connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Morgan lands with a good body shot.
Morgan avoids the head kick by Hollis.
Morgan throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Hollis misses with a low kick.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Morgan has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Morgan looks to land a left hand but Hollis moved out of range nicely.

Hollis has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.

Morgan shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hollis is trying to defend but Morgan finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Morgan seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hollis does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Hollis displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Morgan throws out the jab.

Hollis swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Morgan.

That was a close round but I would say that Joe Hollis will probably get the nod.

Hollis moves out of range of the body kick from Morgan.
Hollis lands with a kick to the temple. Morgan shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Horrible takedown by Morgan or perhaps it was just good defense by Hollis which made him look bad.
Dexter Morgan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Morgan shoots in looking for a takedown but Hollis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Morgan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Morgan goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Morgan loads up on a big right hand but Hollis slips the punch.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Morgan with the ground and pound but Hollis uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Hollis dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Morgan. That did some damage!

and Hollis holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Morgan tries to throw a body punch but Hollis avoids it by throwing Morgan back against the cage.
Hollis tries to work over Morgan's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Hollis lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Morgan backwards.

Morgan has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

A close second round but Dexter Morgan will probably get the nod - 10:9.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Hollis looks to land a combination. Morgan sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Hollis misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Morgan.
Joe Hollis is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Morgan fails in his attempt to clinch.
Hollis throws a nice looking combination but Morgan bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hollis fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Morgan looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Crunch! Morgan slams his shin into Hollis's torso.
Morgan misses with a looping right.
Hollis is looking to wear down Morgan with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Morgan lands a lovely overhand right.
Morgan tries to land a body kick
and Hollis counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Morgan is lucky that one didn't land flush.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Morgan shoots in looking for a takedown but Hollis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Morgan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Morgan lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Morgan misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hollis.
Hollis throws a hook but Morgan blocks it.
Morgan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hollis but Hollis pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Hollis lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Morgan is still on wobbly legs! Can Hollis finish him?


That has opened up Dexter Morgan's cut even more.
Morgan takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Hollis lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Hollis comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Morgan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Morgan shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hollis sprawls well. Hollis wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Morgan gets slowly back to his feet.
Joe Hollis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dexter Morgan.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hollis goes for a small jab and connects. Now Hollis goes in closer pressing the issue. Left hook, right straight! Morgan stumbles back but Hollis runs in with a huge uppercut knocking Morgan to the ground! What a finish! You have to wonder if Morgan will ever be the same after a knockout like that.
