Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Damian Nitschke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akihito Tatsuhiko Jr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tatsuhiko Jr has chosen EYE OF THE TIGER as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. This should be a great matchup!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Akihito Tatsuhiko Jr!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Eliza Hachem and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tatsuhiko Jr throws a head kick that misses.
A jab lands there for Nitschke.
Nitschke misses with a lunging right hand
and Tatsuhiko Jr counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Nitschke scores with a jab. Tatsuhiko Jr acknowledges it with a nod of the head.

It looks like Damian Nitschke has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Nitschke displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Tatsuhiko Jr throws out the jab.

Nitschke throws a hook but Tatsuhiko Jr avoids it easily.
No joy there for Tatsuhiko Jr, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Tatsuhiko Jr wants to stand but Nitschke is controlling the position.
Nitschke throws a big elbow that misses.
We've been hearing that Nitschke has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Tatsuhiko Jr is pulling down on Nitschke's head to control his posture.

Nitschke is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Tatsuhiko Jr is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Tatsuhiko Jr walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Tatsuhiko Jr moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Tatsuhiko Jr misses with a double jab.
Tatsuhiko Jr shoots in for a takedown but Nitschke shows good takedown defense.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

and Tatsuhiko Jr counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Nitschke looks to throw the jab but Tatsuhiko Jr is out of range.
Nitschke throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Tatsuhiko Jr stuffs the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Damian Nitschke dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Nitschke throws a hook to the side of Tatsuhiko Jr's head but Tatsuhiko Jr sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Nitschke fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tatsuhiko Jr manages to avoid it.
Tatsuhiko Jr pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Nitschke back to the cage. Tatsuhiko Jr follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Nitschke accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Tatsuhiko Jr seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Tatsuhiko Jr is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Nitschke presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Nitschke is nestled in close to Tatsuhiko Jr, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Nitschke connects with a nice short shot to Tatsuhiko Jr's temple.

That was a close second round but I would say that Damian Nitschke will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Tatsuhiko Jr has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Nitschke finds it's way round the side to connect with Tatsuhiko Jr's head.

Nitschke closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Tatsuhiko Jr's guard.
Tatsuhiko Jr bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Nitschke's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nitschke has momentary wrist control but Tatsuhiko Jr slips an elbow through the middle.
Damian Nitschke overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Tatsuhiko Jr keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Nitschke's head.


Nitschke is rocked!
Tatsuhiko Jr trying to control the position from guard on top but Nitschke is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Oh Nitschke is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Nitschke seems to have got his legs back now.
Nitschke stops Tatsuhiko Jr from passing to mount.

Tatsuhiko Jr is working to tighten is grip on Nitschke's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Nitschke has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Tatsuhiko Jr is really squeezing tight and eventually Nitschke passes out! Tatsuhiko Jr breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

A pretty intense looking Akihito Tatsuhiko Jr took the opportunity post-fight to ask for a shot at the title.
