Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dr Ahak Giatay! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Paulo Manalo! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Micheangelo Fripello and Ryoma Takatsuka.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Manalo fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Giatay sprawls well initially but Manalo persists and gets the takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Giatay won't allow Manalo to pass to mount. Giatay regains full guard. Nicely done. Manalo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Manalo wants to control from the top but Giatay keeps moving. Giatay is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Paulo Manalo wasn't active enough on the ground. No joy there for Giatay, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Manalo is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Manalo tries for a takedown but Giatay sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Manalo leaves Giatay with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Manalo scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
That's one minute gone in the round. Giatay has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Manalo is on him like a limpet, forcing Giatay back against the cage. Manalo slows down the pace here.
Manalo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Nice takedown defense from Giatay. No joy for Manalo on that attempt. Manalo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Giatay defends it nicely. Dr Ahak Giatay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paulo Manalo. Manalo has closed the distance and engaged Giatay in a clinch.
Manalo turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Giatay struggling a bit here. Giatay isn't going anywhere. Manalo is looking to take a break and control but Giatay is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Giatay tries to buck Manalo off but Manalo is having none of it. Giatay manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Giatay is trying to control the action in half guard but Manalo is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Manalo kicks off Giatay and gets to his feet. Giatay drives through with a takedown into Manalo's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Giatay wants to control from the top but Manalo keeps moving. Manalo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Manalo can do anything to dispel that myth. Giatay is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Manalo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Giatay. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Giatay with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Manalo keeping moving, preventing Giatay from controlling successfully. Giatay loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Giatay's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Dr Ahak Giatay just wasn't active enough. Manalo fails with the takedown. Manalo shoots in looking for a takedown. Giatay tries to sprawl out of it but Manalo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Giatay manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Giatay stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Giatay wants it to stay on the feet. Manalo fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Giatay avoids it really well and circles away. Giatay moves in looking to clinch but Manalo pushes him off. Manalo takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Giatay fails miserably with a takedown attempt. A head kick misses from Giatay. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Manalo closes the distance and clinches up with Giatay, looking for a takedown. Manalo pushes Giatay against the cage but Giatay circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Manalo misses with a jab, cross combination.

Giatay is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Manalo pulls his head out easily. Giatay wants to get back to his feet. That was a close second round but I would say that Dr Ahak Giatay will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

I think Manalo should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Giatay has tightened it up now! Manalo should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
