Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Blue Belt! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ty Jedi! The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Steven Brown and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Belt shoots in for a double leg but Jedi sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Nice defenses there by Belt. Jedi keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Belt checks the leg kick nicely there.
Jedi throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Jedi throws a left and a right that both miss
and Belt counters with a shoot takedown. Jedi fights it but they end up in guard. Belt postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Jedi is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Belt, into his guard. Jedi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Jedi looking to sit in guard and control but Belt gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Jedi has an active guard here but Belt has managed to pass into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action! Belt is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jedi tries to kick Belt off but Belt keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Belt sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Jedi defending well though. Jedi is looking to get back to full guard here but Belt has managed to pass to side control instead. Belt has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Belt creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Belt is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jedi is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Jedi is trying to improve his position. Jedi looks to move to half guard but instead Belt has passed into mount! Damn! Jedi is in a horrible position here. Belt smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Jedi tries to hold on but Belt postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jedi working to try and regain half guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Jedi tries to hold on but Belt pushes him away. Jedi really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Belt with a couple of short strikes.
It looks like Ty Jedi has been cut. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. A big strike lands for Belt! That's really hurt Jedi and he's turned his back - Belt keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Belt jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Blue Belt! Blue Belt really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that Merciless Gladiators logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
