6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Harry Davies! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, Andrew Berry and Donald Grub.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Davies tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Joikhaaja swivels and escapes. We've been hearing reports that Joikhaaja has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Aslak Joikhaaja seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Davies will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Joikhaaja scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Joikhaaja is chipping away with strikes.
Joikhaaja lands some shots froms side control. Joikhaaja working the ground and pound from side control. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Davies trying to remain calm as Joikhaaja controls from the top position. Joikhaaja working away. Davies is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Joikhaaja is controlling him well. Joikhaaja is looking to take a break and control but Davies is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Davies is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Davies prevents Joikhaaja from moving into mount. That's one minute gone in the round. Joikhaaja grinds an elbow into Davies's temple. Davies has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. Davies taking punishment in the form of punches.
Davies is looking for a sweep. Joikhaaja prevents Davies from escaping the position. Davies is not content to let Joikhaaja control the position. Davies is looking to reverse the position. Davies is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Davies wants to get back to full guard. Davies looking for submissions off his back. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. Davies is rocked! Joikhaaja is taking a breather. Davies says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Davies tries to get to full guard but Joikhaaja has control of the leg. Joikhaaja tries to pass to full mount but Davies defends it. Davies is trying to get back to full guard. Joikhaaja looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Davies is refusing to be controlled, as Joikhaaja sits in half guard. Joikhaaja working the head and body with strikes. Joikhaaja is trying to control the action in half guard but Davies is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Joikhaaja is sitting in half guard. He's postured up and lands a nice elbow. Oh, Davies is hurt! He's hurt bad - Joikhaaja fires away with more strikes and the referee jumps in to save Davies from any more punishment! Congratulations to Joikhaaja! Great finish!
