PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Eric Northman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jackie Chan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chan has chosen Now i know as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eric Northman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jackie Chan!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Northman leaves Chan with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A combination from Northman does no damage.
Chan shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Northman defends it nicely.

Chan gets tackled into the cage by Northman. Northman maintains the clinch.
Chan jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Northman walks away with a smile on his face. Chan gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Eric Northman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jackie Chan.
Northman misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Chan looks for a takedown but Northman sprawls well.
Northman shoots in but no luck this time.
Northman shoots in but Chan avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Chan fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chan shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Northman but Northman pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Chan gets a takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Chan wants to lay and pray for a moment but Northman keeps working.

Northman has one foot on Chan's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Chan displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Northman.
Chan shoots in for a double leg but Northman sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Northman stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Northman wants it to stay on the feet.
Northman throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Chan lands a head kick. Northman smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Northman changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chan tries to avoid it but Northman manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chan to the ground. Chan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Chan misses with a head kick.
Chan tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Chan closes this distance looking for a takedown but Northman circles away.
Chan looks winded!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Northman fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Chan, pushing him back against the cage.
Chan is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Northman is keeping busy.
Chan prevents Northman from breaking the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chan dodges an elbow strike from Northman.
Northman can't break the clinch.
Northman really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Northman is trying to break the clinch but Chan has him pressed against the cage.
Chan gets underhooks to prevent Northman's takedown attempt.
Northman is trying to force a seperation but Chan has the dominant position.
Northman has Chan pressed against the cage.
Northman is trying to pull guard but Chan has him pressed against the cage.
Northman tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Chan avoids it.
Chan is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Northman is keeping busy.
Chan using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Northman has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Northman throws an elbow but it misses.
The referee is keeping an eye on Northman - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Chan will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Northman up against the cage.
Northman tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Chan working hard to break the clinch.
Northman throws a knee to the head but misses.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Northman tries for a takedown. No joy.
Northman is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Chan pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Chan misses with a knee strike.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Eric Northman will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Chan is looking to clinch.
Northman stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Northman wants it to stay on the feet.
Northman goes for a double leg but Chan avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Chan continues to drive forward.
Northman has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Chan wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Northman manages to pull guard.

Northman working for submissions but it's allowed Chan to get to half guard.
Chan with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Northman is looking for a sweep. Chan is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chan not doing much here.
Northman tries to roll over but Chan keeps him under control.
Chan passes to full mount!
Northman is in all sorts of trouble here.
Chan takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Chan tries to control but Northman wriggling away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Northman really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Northman tries to improve his position but instead Chan has taken his back!

Chan sinks in the hooks and is looking for the choke. He's got it! Northman taps out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jackie Chan!
In his post fight interview, Jackie Chan started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
