PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rocherre Velassco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ulquiorra Schiffer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rocherre Velassco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ulquiorra Schiffer!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Igor Prikhodko and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velassco tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Schiffer was well out of range. Poor timing from Velassco.
Velassco connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Schiffer's hands.
The fight stays on the outside here - Velassco looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Schiffer takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Rocherre Velassco seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Schiffer fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Schiffer misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Velassco.
Velassco misses with a looping left.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Velassco trying to stall but Schiffer improves his position.
Schiffer lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Velassco swings wildly with an uppercut but Schiffer uses good head movement to avoid it.
Velassco lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Schiffer backwards.

Schiffer gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Schiffer is stalling in the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Velassco wants to sweep but no luck.
Schiffer seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ulquiorra Schiffer was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Schiffer gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Velassco on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Velassco tries to get out of the position.
Schiffer not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Velassco is doing well to control the position and prevent Schiffer from advancing to side control.
Still in half guard, Schiffer seems content to control.

Schiffer is pressing down on Velassco's thigh, looking to free his foot. Velassco is holding on for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Ulquiorra Schiffer was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Schiffer uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Velassco.

Velassco comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Schiffer is fighting to break Velassco's control of his arms but Velassco is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Velassco is looking to sweep but instead, Schiffer has passed into half guard.

Well, if Schiffer is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Velassco trying to hold on to Schiffer's head to control him but Schiffer postures up.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ulquiorra Schiffer will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Schiffer swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Velassco counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Schiffer is lucky that one didn't land flush.
The fighters circling - Schiffer throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Velassco catches Schiffer with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Schiffer keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Velassco throws a looping overhand right but Schiffer ducks down to avoid it.
Velassco moves out of range as Schiffer strikes.

Velassco moves into the clinch.
Schiffer has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Velassco is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Velassco effectively controlling the action here.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Schiffer is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Velassco digs a right hand into Schiffer's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Schiffer's gas tank.

Velassco manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Schiffer tries to pull guard but Velassco holds him up against the cage and eventually Schiffer drops back down to his feet.

Velassco scores with a shoulder strike.

Velassco drops Schiffer with a big knee straight up the middle! Schiffer is covering up against the cage but manages to escape and gets back to his feet!


Schiffer is rocked!


It looks like Ulquiorra Schiffer has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Velassco lands a brutal uppercut that launches Schiffer off his feet! Schiffer tumbles to the floor, barely conscious - the referee jumps in to save him from a beating! Wow, what an ending!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:22 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Rocherre Velassco!
