Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dave Sherk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Zidel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sherk comes to the cage accompanied by Divinations by Mastodon. Zidel is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Are You In? - Incubus. Paul Zidel is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dave Sherk! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Zidel! The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sherk looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Sherk scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Sherk wants to lay and pray for a moment but Zidel keeps working. Sherk slows the pace down in half guard. Zidel makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Zidel scores with a head kick.
It looks like Dave Sherk has been cut. Crunch! Zidel slams his shin into Sherk's torso. We've been told by Sherk's head coaches at *Nelson Fight Camp* 17 coaches that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Sherk circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sherk swats away the attempt to clinch by Zidel. Zidel displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sherk.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sherk will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dave Sherk. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sherk drives through with a takedown into Zidel's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Sherk postures up and lands a big shot to Zidel's brow. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Zidel wants to sweep but no luck. Sherk throwing strikes but missing. Sherk stands up from Zidel's guard - Sherk perhaps looking for a knockout. Sherk avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sherk ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Zidel moves away. Sherk misses with a wild combination.
Sherk sizes up Zidel with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle. Zidel moves in looking to clinch but Sherk pushes him off. Sherk avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Sherk shoots in for a takedown but Zidel shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Zidel instigates a clinch. Zidel breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Sherk misses with a body shot.
Sherk shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sherk showed some decent athleticism there. Sherk is working for a kimura but Zidel is defending it quite comfortably.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sherk throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Sherk has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Still in half guard, Sherk seems content to control. Sherk has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Sherk not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Zidel is looking to escape. Sherk performing his best blanket impression for a moment. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Dave Sherk just wasn't active enough. Sherk misses with an uppercut. Zidel saw that one coming. Sherk moves into the clinch. Zidel fails to pull guard.
Zidel looking to throw knees to the head but Sherk is blocking nicely.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Zidel with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Zidel lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. Zidel is fighting off a takedown attempt but Sherk is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Zidel to the mat. Zidel regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Dave Sherk dominated that round. The cut man is working on Dave Sherk's cut. That's time! Back to the action!
Sherk shoots in looking for a takedown. Zidel tries to sprawl out of it but Sherk keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Zidel manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Zidel instigates a clinch. Zidel tries to land knees in the clinch but Sherk avoids the damage to the body. Zidel tries a knee to the head but Sherk blocks it.
Sherk pulls guard successfully.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Sherk holds on and takes a little breather. Zidel slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Zidel preventing the sweep.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Zidel wants to clinch up but Sherk keeps it at a distance. Sherk tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Sherk misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Zidel is looking to clinch but Sherk is avoiding it.
Dave Sherk is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Zidel ducks under a wild hook from Sherk. A cross from Sherk lands. Zidel throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Zidel tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Sherk manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Zidel avoids a low kick by using good footwork. Paul Zidel is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Sherk goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Zidel instigates a clinch. Sherk is trying to break free. The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Zidel takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life. Zidel tries to land knees in the clinch but Sherk avoids the damage to the body. Sherk trying to land knees to the body.
Zidel throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Sherk blocks it with crossed arms. Sherk keeps control of Zidel as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Zidel breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Sherk changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Zidel tries to avoid it but Sherk manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Zidel to the ground. Zidel escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dave Sherk. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sherk shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sherk showed some decent athleticism there. Sherk is nestled in close to Zidel, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Zidel tries to roll over but Sherk keeps him under control. Sherk trying to control the action but Zidel is working from the bottom. Sherk keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Sherk blocks the strikes from Zidel.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Sherk seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Sherk passes the guard and advances to mount! This has been an exciting period of action! Sherk quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Sherk but it's paid off an Zidel is forced to tap! Nice work by Sherk.

Dave Sherk decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
