The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kirkson moves in looking to clinch but Kawike pushes him off. Kawike changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kirkson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Kawike wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kirkson keeps working. Kawike taking a breather here. Kawike tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Kirkson tries to get back to half guard but can't. Kawike is looking to take a break and control but Kirkson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Kawike working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Kirkson throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kawike advances to full mount. Kirkson is looking to get to half guard. Kawike wants to control the pace but Kirkson is squirming around nicely. Kirkson tries to get back to half guard but can't. Kirkson throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Kawike sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Kirkson is working to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Kirkson working to try and regain half guard.
Kirkson defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Kawike. Kirkson regains half guard. Kawike trying to control from half guard but Kirkson is working away. Kirkson tries to roll over but Kawike keeps him under control. Kirkson taking some punishment here, with Kawike in his half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kirkson wants to get back to full guard. Kawike works his foot free and advances to mount. Kirkson is desperately trying to improve his position but Kawike has a good base and remains in mount. Kawike controlling from mount. Kawike is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Kirkson is surviving well by controlling Kawike's body position as best he can. Kawike is breathing heavily. Kirkson slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Kirkson tries to roll over but Kawike keeps him under control. Kawike is tying to control. Kirkson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kirkson wants to control but Kawike is keeping busy and won't allow it. Kawike tries to pass the half guard into mount. Kirkson knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Kawike is thwarting Kirkson's attempts to control the position. Kawike wants to work for an arm triangle but Kirkson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Kawike is tying to control. Kirkson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Kirkson is looking to improve his position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Kirkson fails with the takedown and Kawike counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Kirkson's guard now. Kawike stopping the sweep attempt from Kirkson. Kawike passes into half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Kileki Kawike dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Kirkson shoots in but no luck this time. Kawike steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Kirkson. That one must have hurt. Kawike feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Kawike thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Kawike looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Kawike advances to half guard. Kawike is trying to control the action in half guard but Kirkson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Kirkson is breathing heavily. Kirkson is in trouble now - Kawike has advanced to mount! Kawike is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Kirkson has managed to escape the submission attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kawike moves to back control. Kawike has his opponent's back and is working for the choke. Kawike lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
Kawike lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Kirkson hold on?!
Kawike tries to keep control of the position but Kirkson is staying busy. Kirkson tries to escape the position.
Kawike is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Kirkson knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Kirkson for a finish. Kirkson is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kirkson won't enjoy being in this position. Kawike looking for the choke. Oh... he's slipped the arm under the neck - Kirkson is tapping - it's over boys! Kawike picks up the submission victory!
