Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
11 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Derrick Elliott! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryu Hayabusa! The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Shirou Masuda.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hayabusa avoids the head kick by Elliott.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Elliott lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Hayabusa has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Hayabusa and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Elliott feints and then cracks Hayabusa's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Hayabusa down. Elliott has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Australian Xtreme Elite Stand Up Training in the buildup to the fight. Hayabusa wants to clinch. Elliott lands a lovely overhand right. Elliott jabs Hayabusa to the body, keeping him at a distance. Elliott goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. The fight stays on the outside here - Hayabusa looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Hayabusa looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Hayabusa tries to close the distance and clinch but Elliott swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Hayabusa clinches with his opponent.
Hayabusa tries a body shot but Elliott blocks it.
Hayabusa misses with a body punch.
Hayabusa doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Hayabusa lands a left hand.
Elliott misses with some punches.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hayabusa is pushing Elliott up against the ropes, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
That's one minute gone in the round. Elliott wants to get back to striking at distance but Hayabusa won't allow it.
Hayabusa keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Elliott's efforts to push away. Hayabusa tries to throw a body punch but Elliott avoids it by throwing Hayabusa back against the ropes. Hayabusa lands an elbow inside.
It looks like Derrick Elliott has been cut. Elliott blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Hayabusa lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch. Hayabusa tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Elliott's elbow. Hayabusa prevents Elliott from breaking the clinch. A short left from Hayabusa. Elliott takes an elbow to the temple. Hayabusa lands a body punch in the clinch. Elliott is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Elliott avoiding damage as Hayabusa throws knees to the body.
Hayabusa misses with a body punch.
Elliott has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Hayabusa lands an uppercut. Elliott's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Elliott looks to land a combination but Hayabusa avoids it well. Elliott misses with a looping right. Hayabusa has closed the distance and engaged Elliott in a clinch.
Hayabusa lands a left hand that snaps the head of Elliott backwards. Elliott blocks an elbow strike. Hayabusa tries a body shot but Elliott blocks it.
Elliott is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Hayabusa is keeping busy. Hayabusa avoiding damage.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Ryu Hayabusa dominated that round. The cut man is working on Derrick Elliott's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Elliott throws a jab but it's blocked by Hayabusa. Thud! ouch! good body kick from Hayabusa - that will leave a mark!
Good work by Elliott as he checks the leg kick. Elliott swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Hayabusa tries to clinch but Elliott moves out of range. A head kick misses from Elliott. Elliott throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Hayabusa pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hayabusa throws a front kick that sends Elliott stumbling back into the ropes. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Hayabusa tries to clinch but Elliott moves out of range. Elliott looks to land a body kick but Hayabusa moved away. An inside leg kick lands from Hayabusa. Ryu Hayabusa seems to be getting the better of the standup. Elliott tries to keep at a distance but Hayabusa has taken the fight into the clinch. Hayabusa lands a nice elbow from the clinch. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Hayabusa lands an uppercut. Hayabusa breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Elliott on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Elliott swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Hayabusa instigates a clinch. Hayabusa lands a hook to the side of the head.
Derrick Elliott's cut is getting worse. Hayabusa lands with a right to the head. Hayabusa displaying some good clinch control by pressing Elliott up against the ropes. Elliott blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Elliott tries to circle away but Hayabusa has him pinned against the ropes. Hayabusa lands an elbow that stopped Elliott in his tracks for a moment. Hayabusa lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Elliott backwards. Hayabusa blocks a body shot from Elliott. A short right from Hayabusa on the inside. Elliott wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. A short right hand to the side of the head by Hayabusa.
Elliott is rocked!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Elliott is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Hayabusa is keeping busy. Oh Elliott is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Hayabusa keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Elliott's efforts to push away. Hayabusa cracks Elliott with a big uppercut, right up the middle and Elliott goes down! Oh, he's hurt! He's bigtime hurt! The referee is giving him a chance to get back to his feet - 4,5,6,7, no, he's called it off! Elliott wasn't going to make it and the fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:16 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punch). Ryu Hayabusa! A very excited looking Ryu Hayabusa made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
