Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Earl DuBois (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jan Kowalsky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jan Kowalsky is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Earl DuBois! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jan Kowalsky! The judges for this bout are Josh West, Colin Fray and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kowalsky shoots in for a takedown but DuBois shows good takedown defense. Kowalsky closes the distance and clinches up with DuBois, looking for a takedown. Kowalsky pushes DuBois against the cage but DuBois circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. DuBois lunges at Kowalsky with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Kowalsky's hand. Kowalsky shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. DuBois manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. DuBois escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kowalsky gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Kowalsky thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. DuBois has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kowalsky is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Kowalsky drops back looking for a leg! DuBois is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and DuBois manages to kick Kowalsky off! Kowalsky jumps back into DuBois's guard. DuBois working a defensive guard here.
That's one minute gone in the round. DuBois wants to sweep but no luck. DuBois looking to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kowalsky drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kowalsky jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. DuBois wants to sweep but no luck. Kowalsky is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Kowalsky seems to be working for a kimura but DuBois defends the submission attempt. DuBois is looking to control Kowalsky's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can DuBois avoid being mounted?
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kowalsky is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. DuBois doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Kowalsky. Kowalsky is working for a kimura but DuBois is defending it quite comfortably.
Kowalsky is looking to advance position but DuBois won't allow it. DuBois is trying to maintain the position but Kowalsky is very close to passing his half guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! DuBois is looking to improve his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Kowalsky is thwarting DuBois's attempts to control the position. Kowalsky wants to pass the guard but DuBois is defending well. DuBois is positioning himself well to prevent Kowalsky advancing to mount. DuBois trying to hold on to Kowalsky's head to control him but Kowalsky postures up.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Earl DuBois. Kowalsky throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around DuBois's waist but DuBois gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kowalsky off to one side. Earl DuBois has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jan Kowalsky. Kowalsky blocks a leg kick. Kowalsky shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kowalsky showed some decent athleticism there. DuBois is trying to get back to full guard. Kowalsky wants to pass to mount but DuBois is defending the position.

Kowalsky wants to free his trapped foot but DuBois is holding on for dear life with his legs. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! A close round but Jan Kowalsky will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

It looks like Jan Kowalsky has been cut. Kowalsky walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. DuBois lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by DuBois.
Kowalsky is rocked! DuBois changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kowalsky looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Kowalsky is still in real trouble! Can DuBois finish him? The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Kowalsky sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Kowalsky blocking the ground and pound attempt from DuBois. Kowalsky avoiding damage under a succession of punches from DuBois. Earl DuBois overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. DuBois in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Kowalsky tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from DuBois!
