PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Simon Morgan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roman Kersikov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Morgan comes to the cage accompanied by Sherry Monocle. Kersikov is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Iron Maiden - The Wicker Man. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Simon Morgan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roman Kersikov!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Columbo Gatti and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kersikov throws a body kick that misses.
Morgan misses with a body shot

and Kersikov counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Morgan!
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Morgan tries to buck Kersikov off but Kersikov is having none of it.
Morgan struggling a bit here.
Morgan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kersikov on the ground.
Kersikov moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Morgan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Kersikov tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Morgan can't do much from the bottom here.

Kersikov goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Morgan has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Kersikov but great work by Morgan.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kersikov is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Morgan off and has taken his back!

Kersikov throws a sloppy strike and Morgan uses the opportunity to reverse the position! A bit of a scramble here and Morgan has ended up in Kersikov's guard.

Morgan got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kersikov has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Morgan has managed to get both his arms back between Kersikov's legs - danger averted.
Kersikov controls Morgan momentarily but Morgan frees himself.

Kersikov tries to land a sweep but no joy.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Good leg kick by Morgan there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Kersikov is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Kersikov wants to free his trapped foot but Morgan is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Kersikov working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Roman Kersikov has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kersikov is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Morgan keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Kersikov lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Kersikov slips a nice elbow through Morgan's hands, connecting with Morgan's forehead.
Morgan is looking to control Kersikov's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Morgan avoid being mounted?

Morgan is staying active underneath Kersikov, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Kersikov has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Morgan gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Kersikov connects with a right hand. Morgan shakes it off.

Roman Kersikov showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


A decent looking body kick lands there for Morgan.
Morgan wants to slow Kersikov down by chopping away at his legs.
Kersikov bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Morgan's head backwards.
Kersikov is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Kersikov tries to land a leg kick but Morgan saw it coming and moves away.

Kersikov is trying to control the action in half guard but Morgan is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Kersikov has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Kersikov is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Morgan is just riding it out for now. Kersikov eventually gives up the hold.

Roman Kersikov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Kersikov winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
