PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Don King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Felipe Melo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Melo has chosen Fort Minor - Remember the name as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Don King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Felipe Melo!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Lou da Vinci and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Melo throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
King throws a nice looking combination but Melo bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
King has been working on his boxing with his coaches at ELITE GYM 45 CAP in the buildup to the fight.
King looks to land a combination but Melo avoids it well.
King throws a hook but Melo avoids it easily.
King swings for the body but Melo moves out of range.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Melo.
Melo throws a hook but King blocks it.
King throws a lazy right hand but Melo sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Melo is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.


It looks like Felipe Melo has been cut.

Melo has King up against the cage in a clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
King can't break the clinch.

Melo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Melo has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from King finds it's way round the side to connect with Melo's head.
Melo uses good head movement to avoid the hook from King.
A big left from King misses.
Melo thumps King with a low kick.

Melo instigates a clinch.
Melo has King pressed against the cage, preventing King from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Melo keeps the fight in the clinch, despite King's efforts to push away.

Melo breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Melo paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Melo is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
King falls off balance throwing a combination
and Melo counters with a low kick, right behind King 's knee.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Melo feints and then cracks King's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow King down.
Melo throws a nice head kick!


It looks like Don King has been cut.
King scores with a jab to the jaw.
Melo pushes King away with a front kick.
King tests Melo's chin there with a solid looking shot.
A solid body kick from Melo.
Melo pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Melo staying out of range there.
King throws a combination that misses
and Melo counters with a solid body kick.
Melo tries to close the distance and clinch up but King swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Melo uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by King.
A slow jab from King misses its intended target.
Melo walks into a straight right hand from King.
King jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
King with a nice cross.
Melo scores with a kick to the midsection.
Melo scoring well with a low kick there.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Melo avoids the body shot from King.
A slapping body kick lands there for Melo.
King is breathing heavily.
Melo lands with a nice body kick.
Melo scores with a spinning back kick!

Melo has taken the fight to the clinch.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.

Melo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Melo lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Melo throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent King stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Melo is looking to clinch.
King avoids the head kick by Melo.
Felipe Melo seems to be getting the better of the standup.
King takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Melo instigates a clinch.
King will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body.
King looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
King is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Melo blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Melo trying to control the position but instead, King has worked for underhooks and has pushed Melo into the cage.

Melo breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

King throws a combination that misses
and Melo counters with a nice kick to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
King throws a predictable looking body shot
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Melo lands a head kick. King smiles back at him and beckons him forward.

King on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Melo lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Melo throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Melo throws a head kick that half lands.
Horrible takedown by Melo or perhaps it was just good defense by King which made him look bad.
Melo lands a nice hook to King's body. King takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Melo has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

and Melo counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

and Melo counters with a solid body kick.
Melo tries to clinch up.
King throws out a loose jab but Melo uses good head movement to avoid it.
King misses with a jab, cross combination.
Melo scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Melo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Melo cracks King with a good jab.
King takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Melo is looking to slow King down with leg kicks.
Good leg kick by Melo there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Melo tries to clinch but King moves out of range.
Melo throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Melo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Don King is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
King lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Melo circles away quickly and effectively.

King takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.


Don King's cut is getting worse.
King on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Melo on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Melo throws a one two combo.
King takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Melo connects with a high kick.
Melo scores with a push kick.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Melo thuds his shin into the meat of King's side.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Felipe Melo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

A decent looking cross lands there for Melo.
Melo pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Melo throws a nice outside leg kick.
King misses with the combination.
King has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Melo.
King uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Melo.
Melo fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt King.
Melo lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Melo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

King falls off balance throwing a combination
and Melo counters with an inside leg kick.

Melo lands a big head kick that sends King tumbling to the mat! Melo takes a step backwards and waves King back to his feet - he wants the finish!
This has been an exciting period of action!
King avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Melo tries to clinch but King is having none of it.
Melo buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
King connects with a crisp jab.
Melo fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Melo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Melo scores with a head kick. King tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.


Don King's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
King falls off balance throwing a combination
and Melo counters with a right, left combo that wobbles King badly! Melo follows up with a massive right hook, straight to the bridge of the nose that knocks King out cold! Oh wow, what a finish! Very reminiscent of Koscheck vs Yoshida as Melo finished him against the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Felipe Melo!
After the fight, Felipe Melo was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
