Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Robert Paulson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rez Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cortez has chosen Hit Me Baby One More Time by Britney Spears as his entrance music. Robert Paulson has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Robert Paulson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rez Cortez! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Chris Saunders and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paulson fails with a takedown attempt. Paulson shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Cortez as he jumps to the side. Paulson goes for a double leg but Cortez avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Cortez continues to drive forward. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robert Paulson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Paulson blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Paulson throws a head punch that misses. Paulson is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Cortez gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Cortez has a couple of punches blocked by Paulson.
Cortez's coach down at Facebreaker Academy : Striking was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Cortez's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Paulson blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Paulson effectively controlling the action here. Cortez is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Paulson lands a nice shot to the body. Paulson is struggling to control the position. Paulson has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Cortez avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Paulson blocking some punches.
Paulson has been working on his balance at TAP ROOT -/- 10 Coaches / Great Sparring / Value, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Cortez.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paulson has Cortez pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Cortez manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Paulson breaks the clinch.
Cortez lands a head shot. Paulson wants to clinch. Paulson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Paulson lands in his opponent's guard. Cortez wants to stand but Paulson is controlling the position. Cortez working a defensive guard here.
Paulson won't allow Cortez to sweep him here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Paulson drops back, looking for a kneebar! Cortez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Cortez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Cortez! Paulson is looking for a sweep. Paulson is working hard here to advance position. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Cortez working the ground and pound but Paulson is defending the strikes. Paulson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Paulson tries to get out of the position. Paulson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cortez wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Cortez in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Cortez stands up. Paulson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Cortez misses with a wild combination.

It looks like Robert Paulson has been cut.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Paulson takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Cortez fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Cortez moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Paulson has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Cortez finds it's way round the side to connect with Paulson's head. Paulson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cortez is fending him off so far but Paulson persists. Nope, Cortez circles away and we're back to standing. Cortez connects with a looping right hand.
This has been an exciting period of action! Cortez lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Robert Paulson's cut is getting worse. Oooooh!!! Cortez has knocked Paulson down with a huge combo! Cortez steps away and waves a wobbly Paulson back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Paulson is rocked! Cortez throws a right and a left that both miss. Oh Paulson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Cortez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Paulson seems to have got his legs back now. Paulson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cortez tries to avoid it but Paulson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cortez to the ground. Cortez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Paulson is breathing heavily. Cortez throws a nice looking combination but Paulson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Cortez connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Robert Paulson's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. Cortez cracks Paulson with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Cortez tries to bum rush Paulson with a series of wild strikes but Paulson uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Cortez scores with the left hand. Paulson knows he should have avoided that one. Cortez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Paulson. Cortez throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. No joy there for Cortez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Cortez Rushes Paulson and starts throwing punches like they are going out of style! Paulson is up against the cage and has nowhere to go. Cortez Piles on the pressure and Paulson crumples to the floor! This one is all over!
