Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Hardin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Dominguez ! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dominguez shoots in and gets a takedown into Hardin's guard. Dominguez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hardin works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Hardin controls Dominguez momentarily but Dominguez frees himself. Dominguez pushing down on Hardin's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Dominguez is taking a breather. Hardin says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Dominguez tries to stand but can't do so whilst Hardin controls his leg. Dominguez not doing much here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hardin wants to get back to full guard. Dominguez blocks the strikes from Hardin.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dominguez is taking a breather. Hardin says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Josh Dominguez hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Dominguez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Dominguez stands up. Dominguez shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hardin's guard. Dominguez wants to pass the guard but Hardin is keeping the position. Hardin throws his legs up looking for a submission but Dominguez uses it to pass to side control.
Hardin is trying to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hardin throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Dominguez looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Hardin is looking to reverse the position. Dominguez wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Hardin, who protects the arm well. Hardin wants to control but Dominguez postures up. Dominguez has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hardin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Dominguez counters with a stiff right hand. Dominguez swinging wildly here.
Hardin shoots and misses and Dominguez counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Dominguez . Hardin jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Dominguez walks away with a smile on his face. Hardin gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Hardin. That's going to take a lot out of him. Dominguez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Hardin bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Dominguez has taken the fight to the clinch.
Hardin wants to break the clinch but can't.
Dominguez is defending well against a takedown attempt. Dominguez breaks the clinch.
Dominguez drives through and clinches with Hardin against the cage.
Hardin really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Dominguez keeps control of Hardin as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Hardin manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Dominguez slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Dominguez drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Dominguez as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Hardin screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Dominguez ! Nice submission victory there!
