The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nicks gets caught napping as Marques dives in and scores a takedown. Nicks manages to retain guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Marques not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Marques drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Marques jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Marques is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Marques stops Nicks from standing up.
Marques wants to pass the guard but Nicks is keeping the position.
Nicks tries to land a sweep but no joy.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Nicks can do anything to dispel that myth.

Marques seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Alan Marques.

Nicks drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
